The first time I voted was after coming back to the States in 2014; I readily admit that I didn’t actually understand how important voting really was until my own family was in the crosshairs. It’s been blue since the day I registered.

Aaaaand he gave up trying for that particular outcome. Because of course he did.
Trying to figure out what’s taking Mike Lee so long to vote. Is it that he underestimated just how much time it would take to grow a whole entire spine? #ProtectMedicaid
Oh hey, it’s me! Still on my soapbox, hollering for whoever will listen that Medicaid is pro-life. #ProtectMedicaid
Real person roll call! 🙋🏻♀️

This is the text I’ve sent my friends, in case you need a script.
My son turns 11 this summer and wouldn’t be alive if not for Medicaid. #ProtectMedicaid
Thank you for laying this out, @repbrendanboyle.bsky.social
Passing the #OneBigBeautifulBill pushes the BIGGEST cut to #Medicaid in American history, which translates to a loss of healthcare for MILLIONS OF AMERICANS
#ProtectMedicaid
Using xenophobia to distract the American people from their planned cuts to #Medicaid is a sick and disgusting tactic.

Eternally grateful to have such an incredible champion and ally in @booker.senate.gov. Thank you for joining the #ProtectMedicaid vigil today!
She was there in 2017 when we did this the first time, and she’s still there today. I just can’t believe we’re all still trying to convince them that disabled kids deserve healthcare.

Sen Booker & Rep Jeffries are still drawing We, the People to the Capitol Steps. Rep Jeffries called on the spirit of John Lewis & made it clear: Good Trouble lives on in heroes like Cole.
These kids are fierce.
Their fight is righteous.
This is the kind of trouble that saves lives.
I hope @schumer.senate.gov is paying close attention tonight. THIS is how you stand up for people. THIS is how you fight for your constituents.
THIS is leadership.
But it was a couple of years before then that I first heard him speak at a rally in Newark. It was the first political event I’d ever attended, and I left that building fired up in a way that’s hard to quantify. That was, what, half an hour? And I still think about it.
We got to meet the senator back in 2018 on one of our trips to DC with our @littlelobbyists.bsky.social crew. He was warm and kind and genuinely interested in our little family and Ethan’s healthcare story.
Not sure I’ve ever been so proud to be a Jersey girl. Thank you for telling our stories and fighting for us, @booker.senate.gov. This is what real leadership looks like.

Two fingers of a hands hold a tiny heart shaped rock in front of a fire burning on the ground.
Spending the day in the forest, sitting next to a fire to stay warm in the cold and just pretending for a little while that none of it is real.
You never forget the screams of the mother of a baby too young to be vaxxed who died as a result of an exposure from an antivaxxer’s child.
A snowy mountain range glows orange in the sunset light
A closeup of a mountain peak, shrouded in clouds that glow orange in the sunset light. Tiny evergreen trees are silhouetted along the ridge visible through a break in the clouds.
Took a little extra time to get home from the grocery store today. #utah #sunset
Ich werd’s nie verstehen können, warum so viele Leute Sozialhilfeprogrammen hassen.
I wish I didn’t have to. But I will keep doing it if I can open at least one person’s eyes. 🩵
Medicaid saves lives. There are disabled kids with complex medical needs who are alive because of Medicaid.
Meet Ethan, who survived and is now thriving thanks to #Medicaid.💙💛
Think of him when you hear funding cuts, block grants, work requirements, admin burdens - they all threaten kids like him.
So when you hear them talking about cutting funding and trashing #Medicaid? It’s not just numbers. It’s people.
And people matter.
It feels so obvious to me that this is what’s best for kids like June, the being in their own homes and having their siblings to play with and being part of the family lives they’re born into. When I say that #Medicaid matters, it’s because it does. It matters to every single June out there.
If not for #Medicaid, June’s medical issues would mean she’d live in an institution. She’s complicated. She requires around the clock care. And because of Medicaid, she gets to receive that care in her own home with her own family. Her room is rainbow colored and her dog likes to jump on the bed.
(Before you get worried about HIPAA, mom has asked me to share about June. I only give you info and photos that have been approved by family; home health just means that sometimes you’re both nurse and friend.)
It’s #Medicaid that pays for those doctors visits. Medicaid that pays for the supplies. Medicaid that pays for the nurses (like me!) who come into her home and help care for her so her parents can continue to work and study and care for their other children, too.
June also has a laundry list of medical diagnoses and requires a team of specialists and a steady stream of medical supply deliveries to make sure she thrives.
June is a sister and a daughter and a connoisseur of good podcasts and better music. (Circle Round and Sleeping At Last, if you were wondering.) She has a truly slapstick sense of humor and a penchant for chaos.
