Atm trails is a very easy series to get into outside time. Technically someone could grind those games faster if they wanted to through very easy mode and ignore following side quests each act
I hope they keep it that way and don't rock the boat.

I prefer the new releases over dlc for the sake of keeping the story clean and easier to follow.
Trails is still way more well handled than Kingdom Hearts who stupidly put mobile games into the series after taking the time to converge their spread games

I am a bit more harsh about Horizon on this because its the third game using Daybreak 1 assets heavily, which is a first in the trails series since sky 3rd.
Like sky first and Daybreak i am sure had much larger production values than horizon
Its not a bad game.
I just don't put it on say Daybreak 1 level because it uses too many recycled assets as well. I have been a little underwhelmed from the world building side of things that we didn't get to visit New towns outside of anchorville.
Lore wise it does get you to think about a lot
And now I am up to date on the entire Trails series.
Just finished Horizon.
Game is good but it isn't the best outside gameplay and visuals. I think people are downplaying previous entries way too much.
People should take their time on the series honestly and play in order
