For someone who hates grading as much as I do, I sure did pick a career with a lot of grading.

Parseword - A tricky wordplay game Transform phrases through wordplay to solve cryptic crossword puzzles.

Big fan of this new puzzle from Josh Wardle (creator of Wordle!) if you love cryptics, you’ll love this too! And if you have always wanted to try cryptics but found them a bit hard to get into, this is a great introduction!

Welp, my dog chewed up my Kindle. I always said my next e-reader would be non-Amazon. Anyone have experience with the Rakuten Kobo? In particular, I borrow a lot of ebooks from my local library via Libby. Do they play nice together?

In my part of the world, we are gaining about 2 minutes of sunlight a day right now, which may not seem like a lot, but in Longyearbyen, Svalbard, they are gaining 16 minutes of sunlight per day right now!

I’ve been thinking about the vernal equinox. Mostly I realized how much later the sun seems to stay out these days, and how sudden the change felt. But it’s simple math - assuming a roughly sinusoidal pattern, the derivative is maximized halfway between the winter and summer solstices.

Screenshot of a veterinary clinic update labeled β€œMoose,” uploaded 20 minutes ago by β€œMasha RVT,” with the caption β€œWe are scrubbed and ready to go for Surgery.” The photo shows a large brown dog lying on his back on a surgical table. His abdomen is shaved and prepped, and most of his body is covered with a cream-colored blanket patterned with red lines. Blue positioning pads support his body and legs. A veterinary professional wearing scrubs, gloves, a mask, and a surgical cap stands beside him, surrounded by medical equipment including monitors, IV lines, and a large circular imaging machine. The setting appears to be a surgical suite, with the dog prepared for an upcoming procedure.

My dog Moose had surgery the other day (he is ok, just repairing a stomach issue and is now recovering at home) but the vet sent me this photo as an update. What an image (content warning in case seeing a dog splayed out on a surgical table isn’t what you needed today) (no blood)

After hearing DJT make fun of elite women Olympic athletes, I never want to hear the argument that they want to β€œprotect women’s sports” ever again.

A close-up of a large protest sign mounted on a wooden stick that reads β€œCSU UNFAIR TO LABOR β€” PAY UP OR STRIKE OUT” in bold black and blue letters. The sign includes the Teamsters Local 2010 Skilled Trades logo near the bottom. It is photographed outdoors beside a street, with a metal pole, trees, blue sky with clouds, and a partially visible person in the background.

Teamsters are striking across CSU campuses this week and faculty are showing their support! Stand in solidarity.

β€œReaders should be able to assume that every word between quotation marks is what the speaker or writer said… The writer should, of course, omit extraneous syllables like β€˜um’ and may judiciously delete false starts.”

At the vet today, a nice old gentleman in the waiting room was petting my dog Moose and asked, in all sincerity, if Moose is catholic.
