Car Free Day: SAVED. Elect progressives, get results.
I moved this urgent motion today with Cllr Orr and was thrilled that it was approved unanimously by Council.

so, it's better. the opposition councillors did a press conference about lenny zhou's video on monday. he put out an apology statement where ken sim thanked him for taking responsibility. then we found out that ken was the source of the lie the very next day.
ART.
as someone who lived through the rob ford years, we are not QUITE there yet in vancouver. we don't have a sandro lisi or a police tail. YET!
get his ass
The Vans North and West shall bow before the Mother of Vancouvers and render us rich tribute
same energy
Not 'them' - 'us'!
This is fantastic.
Priorities Bula’s nomination campaign centres on issues that underpin civic life for all Vancouverites: Fixing Housing: A full range of housing options including community land trusts, tiny-home villages, laneway homes, townhouses, and six floors and corner stores in every neighbourhood that meet the needs of each cycle of one’s life. Supporting Small Business and Community: Transformational support for small businesses, non-profits, and arts and culture organizations that make life colourful and Vancouver a diverse, prosperous, and joyful city. Welcoming Routes and Safe Streets: Building safe, accessible active transportation routes across the city for cyclists and pedestrians, making family life, work, and social connection easier for everyone to access no matter how you get around. Public Safety: Ensuring City Hall gets serious about maintaining a baseline of public order and social trust in every neighbourhood.
And it’s official: Vancouver urban affairs journalist @fabulavancouver.bsky.social leaving journalism to run for city council with OneCity Vancouver.
“Journalism was my service to the public for decades, now I want to do public service more directly.”
Over the moon that someone Frances’ calibre has thrown her hat in with OneCity.
I’ll let @wazaroff.bsky.social say the rest:
The medium is the message!
Many candidates. One city.
Welcome to OneCity Vancouver @fabulavancouver.bsky.social!
This is a big deal in Vancouver politics circles.
@fabulavancouver.bsky.social has been reporting on Vancouver politics for decades. You can make a good case that no one knows the city's politics better than she does.
A real get for OneCity.
Today in interesting local politics and local media news: @fabulavancouver.bsky.social seems to be making the leap to local politics and will join OneCity.
I phoned @fabulavancouver.bsky.social, and she officially declined comment until the “career transition” becomes public tomorrow.
They’re popping bottles in Edmonton (and lowkey the ministry of finance in Ottawa) tonight
Whom gonna drop the details on this remark/accusation
"Says he works every day to retain support of ABC councillors."
👀
There is an unresolved tension between Carney’s desire to project a new, purely realist Canadian stance driven by pragmatic need, and his desire to create a break from the U.S. sphere and play a major role in the alliance of surviving liberal democracies, defending their values. Visible here.
This story is crap imo. The mayor is not looking right into a camera and defaming an opposition councillor over something he saw for half a second at a public event
That stranger’s name? Albert Einstein
He hadn't taken questions about it yet - he had to do -something-, otherwise every media avail he was at (like tomorrow's on Granville?) would devolve into Friday's scrum.
That said, to avoid that in future he had to actually -answer questions-, which he did not really do today
In light of Sim saying that he said Orr dealt drugs based on seeing a mystery photo from a mystery person, I think it’s important to reflag this.
If this is an uncharitable interpretation, the mayor is free to provide more details of how he ended up seeing such a photo and believing it.
I really do wonder if you might have Lathe of Heaven'd this scenario into existence. Did Ken Sim's fake photo come from @vanshittytv bsky.app/profile/jmce...
Wait that’s it???
Ken Sim saying he saw a fake photo of Sean Orr and thought it was real. Was it from @vanshittytv???
玉險 Office of the Prime Minister Cabinet du Premier Ministre Statement by Prime Minister Carney and Minister Anand on the situation in the Middle East "The Canadian government is closely following Iran-related hostilities throughout the Middle East and urges all Canadians in Iran to shelter in place. Canadians in the wider region should follow local advice and take all necessary precautions. Canada's position remains clear: the Islamic Republic of Iran is the principal source of instability and terror throughout the Middle East, has one of the world's worst human rights records, and must never be allowed to obtain or develop nuclear weapons. Canada and our international partners have consistently called upon the Iranian regime to end its nuclear program, including at the 2025 G7 Leaders' Summit in Kananaskis and with the United Nations' reimposition of sanctions in September. Despite diplomatic efforts, Iran has neither fully dismantled its nuclear program, halted all enrichment activities, nor ended its support for regional terrorist proxy groups. Canada stands with the Iranian people in their long and courageous struggle against Iran's oppressive regime. Canada has listed the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist entity, and has sanctioned 256 Iranian entities and 222 individuals in response to the regime's repression and its violence both against its own people, and persistently, beyond its borders. Canada reaffirms Israel's right to defend itself and to ensure the security of its people. Canada supports the United States acting to prevent Iran from obtaining a nuclear weapon and to prevent its regime from further threatening international peace and security. The Canadian government urges the protection of all civilians in this conflict. We will take all possible measures to protect our nationals and Canadian diplomatic missions throughout the region." Well. For those of us wondering if he’d walk the walk of the Davos speech, this is a pretty big answer.
Nope.
My least popular Vancouver opinion (and I cannot understand why it’s not more widely shared) is that Yaletown is good actually
The street wall/townhouse and tower building style is dope and better than the towers in the park style of the west end imo
My bet is, 10 teenage Nazis in a discord server (it posts CONSTANTLY), minor dark money op, or perhaps both at once
