What does dystopia look like if this is reality!
The repair that Bruxy needs to do, I would add, should also include apologizing to the women he abused for calling it an βaffairβ when it was clergy abuse, and providing some form of restitution for the harm he did them. I do have compassion for the wives tooβexcruciating situations.
So I am not inclined to use the word βconfessedβ until it is clearer whether his words are a coverup of his real actions, and a subtle way of blaming a victim, or a smokescreen for a series of victims. No prejudging, just waiting to see, based on so many unfortunate precedents. Praying for all.
My concern is for the woman he had an βaffairβ with, and how his status as a revered Christian leader impacted her life and decisions. We may never hear from her. While not clergy, he was a powerful religious leader. Most religious leaders claim abuse was βan affairβ, and they had a willing partner.
It is a difficult time for all who read and valued his theology, I feel your pain Tim. I wasnβt so impacted by Yanceyβs books. I felt that way more with revelations of Jean Vanierβs abuse of religious power to violate women. That gutted me. Long-term systemic abuse that he lied about.
An evening winter scene. The sun has just set, and a lone tree on one side of the road, and a hydro tower on the other are silhouetted against the sky.
God, itβs a new year.
What new experiences, knowledge, people
will you bring into my life in 2026?
Help me make good choices.
My first good choice is asking you
to be my constant companion.
By my side, in my heart, my protection by day and night.
Letβs go.
Day 1 of this new year.

Kurelek painting. A night scene of a mother, father and baby sleeping in the dark woods. In the distance across a river you can make out the Canadian Parliament buildings.

You gather our stories in your arms
and on this longest night, you hold them and us.
Hope shines like an infinitely distant star,
like a star over Bethlehem,
shining over towering concrete walls
and machine gun battlements,
shining over the pain of this battered world.

That is a hard storyβ¦
An apricot orchard in fall, with one tree shining orange, under grey mottled skies.
For the beauty
of the glowing tree,
thanks be to God

This was a fabulous game until the last two seconds. What a team!
Loving the podcast! Thanks so much for your insightful, trenchant and personable episodes. Love the book section you added. Just subscribed to The Atlantic!
A bright pinky orange sunset above a row of dark trees
For fleeting flaming
moments of beauty,
thanks and praise

For all who have
empty bank accounts
and empty cupboards,
and for places where war
or capricious weather
meant there was
no harvest this year,
hear our prayer.
Give us generous hearts
to meet the needs
of our hungry neighbours.
#GiveThanksThroughGenerosity
For this yearβs harvest,
for food on the table
and in the pantry,
for grocery stores stocked
and full granaries,
thanks be to God
#Thanksgiving
Yes, a very interesting article!

Because
my garden
is a source
of joy
and hard work
and frustration,
(basically like life),
thanks be to God.

When domestic violence
is legitimated
and trivialized
in the highest places,
hear our prayer
#AssaultIsAssault
For anyone who thinks
they can do
whatever they want to do,
who is over four years old,
hear our prayer

As this day
unscrolls,
keep my eyes
peeled
for good fruit,
I pray
to the Lord
#Fruitful
Can we hear
the cries
of the starving people
in Gaza?
Hear our prayer,
for peaceful access
to humanitarian aid today,
God our provider.

For the joy
of apricot season,
thanks & praise
to God
and all

For all
who are thinking
strong thoughts
in the face
of injustice,
hear our prayer
