Tombstone Wins aren't my dream design it's just the design that I think would improve the league and have a chance of being implemented. My dream of dissolving the league and re-forming as an association that combines the best of European soccer w/ the best of US franchise model seems unlikely.
Part of my proposed model that doesn't matter because no one in the league would ever care what I say includes a small lottery slice for teams that win out of the play-in
I think there is an inherent check on a lot of early season tanking but it won't eliminate it entirely. If the model is "losses before date plus wins after date" then there really does need to be some floor on how many losses you can accrue, even with that natural desire to win at the start.
I am once again begging newspaper and magazine sites to let me pay $0.50 or $1.00 or something to read a single article. I'm not going to subscribe but I will give you money to read something that interests me. You used to be able to buy one issue when it was physical media!

It's pretty rare for a team to win an NBA title without running into disappointment first. The Celtics best path to the title is probably for the Spurs to knock out OKC and then struggle with the bright lights in the Finals.

We live in a world beyond parody. The United States has had four minesweeper vessels in the Persian Gulf for 35 years. Just yesterday these ships arrived in Philadelphia to be decommissioned, a day before Iran announces that they are mining the Strait of Hormuz.

No, the Wizards were being incredibly stupid. They were deploying a strategy to try to deny him but were so over aggressive in doing it that they kept fouling him!

Sucks that it looks like the C's are going down but under the circumstances it's hard to take much away from it that we didn't already know.
The previous record for FTAs in a game was 39 but that was hack-a-Dwight. The previous record in a game where they weren't intentionally fouling is 34 which means Bam took 26% more FTAs than any player has ever "legitimately" taken in a game before.
