(left) how it started: -10Β°C and a snowstorm in my Austrian home village πŸŒ¨οΈβ˜ƒοΈ;
(right) how it's going: +34Β°C and burning hot sunshine in Natal, Brazil β˜€οΈπŸŒ΄.
It never ceases to amaze me how far modern airtravel can get us. Also, excited for our school+workshop in Natal πŸ‡§πŸ‡·: www.iip.ufrn.br/en/events/qu...

Highlight of the day: a crochet workshop for our team at @jku.at. Featuring topology, sloths, tea, cookies and, most importantly, hands-on practice with hook and yarn. Go team!

Way to go Joerg Schmiedmayer! Congratulations. As a fellow Austrian, I'm happy that @tuwien.at managed to convince Joerg to come back to Austria and do his research here in Austria. :-)

Personal highlight: after 3 knee surgeries over the past years and a lot of physiotherapy lessons, I am finally back on the skiing slopes. πŸŽΏπŸ”οΈβ›·οΈ And it feels amazing! Huge thanks to all the expert care and dedication that made this possible. Some wounds can heal after all!

At our QUICK Quantum Computing Group, we’ve adopted the sloth as our group mascot, a QUICK reminder that good things take time! πŸ¦₯

To celebrate International Sloth Day last week, we raised funds and donated to the Sloth Conservation Foundation. Great initiative by Marwa Marso (last row center)!

(III/III) Our QUICK group commits itself to high equal opportunity, workplace safety and diversity standards. Currently, 60% of the department members come from abroad, and 60% are female. Consequently, we encourage people from all genders and ethnicities to apply.

(II/III) We're looking for young talent with a background in CS, math, EE or quantum physics and growth potential. Your future research focus should be in quantum CS, preferably with a connection to AI. More weight should be given to basic, rather than applied, research.

(I/III) We're excited to announce a new tenure track opening! The position is called 'quantum informatics' and is affiliated with our QUICK group within the CS+AI division at @jku.at πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ή. Application deadline is November 30th, 2025: www.jku.at/en/the-jku/w...

Fruitful crossover between Berlin, Germany, and Linz, Austria. @faehrmion.bsky.social -- MVP of this project -- discovered most of the shadow of the Hadamard test while spending time with our QUICK sloth team in Linz, Austria πŸ‡¦πŸ‡Ή.

Huge thanks to Viet Tran, Mariami Gachechiladze and MVP Jan Noeller for a productive and fun collaboration!
Plus, a big shoutout to Sitan Chen, Weiyuan Gong and Qi Ye for developing elegant new frameworks for proving hardness of learning tasks which we managed to adapt to our needs.

In 2021, Robert Huang, myself & @preskill.bsky.social identified quantum state learning tasks that look hard, but become easy if you jointly process 2 copies. I have long wondered whether such challenges exist for c>2 copies. Turns out yes, there is an infinite hierarchy scirate.com/arxiv/2510.0...

The pioneering work of Clarke, Devoret, and Martinis showed that very cold electrical circuits behave in ways that exhibit fundamental principles of quantum physics.

πŸ‡¦πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡πŸ‡Ί Austro-Hungarian reunion at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. AndrΓ‘s GilyΓ©n is probably one of the best quantum algorithm designers out there. He co-developed quantum SDPs, QSVT & Gibbs Sampling. No wonder he won an ERC! Happy that he also decided to return to Europe, and proud to be his friend!

I for one am extremely grateful for the advice and support Peter showed me when I started at JKU as a young assistant professor almost 5 years ago. Thank you, Peter!
