Chromatin and cryoEM afficionada. Still a fan of crystallography. Avid Colorado hiker. Will call out ugly nucleosome cartoons. Scrappy quilter. Come for the science, stay for the mountains, quilts, and snark. Opinions and snark are my own.

Here is the "effective payline" for each institute, estimated (by Claude) as the percentile where one can expect 80% probability of funding from a logistic regression fit. The effective payline has gone from a historic ~12% to 6% in 2025.

yes you can vote, and yes I take orders from nice ppl. F1 thinks its an 'imposition' to gift friends with a quilt without warning, since not all people like quilts, and then they have to pretend they like it. Should I care? Opinions?

The molecular basis of force selectivity by PIEZO2 Nature - PIEZO2 is intrinsically more rigid than PIEZO1, and disparate mechanical stimuli paradoxically evoke opposite conformational and gating responses in each channel.

New paper from the lab led by @ericmulhall.bsky.social addresses how PIEZO1 and PIEZO2 are tuned to different types mechanical forces. From nanometer-scale super-resolution microscopy to in vivo experiments, links single-molecule observations to physiological function.

idk that seems to be the understatement of the week. this is actually happening, postdocs and RAs are being let go, and projects falter. 'could face funding gaps'? this is actually happening at a large scale. 'Worry' doesnt reflect the existential crisis that many of my colleagues are in.

UW announced departure from X (formerly known as Twitter) UW is no longer using X, formerly known as Twitter, which they announced in a post on Feb. 27.Β  Before this announcement, the university posted periodic updates about closures, safety alert systems, ...

Wonderful news: my university has announced it will stop using X. uwimprint.ca/uw-announced...

And no, this does not violate institutional neutrality, properly understood. Nothing about neutrality in communications requires a university to use any and all platforms.
