one day i'll learn how to type it is NOT THIS DAY
just sitting over here bodily fighting the urge to post Tom Hanks saying "it's supposed to be hard. if its wasn't hard everyone would do it."
ok now i am interested in how this would interact with "special skills"/"abuse of trust" sentencing enhancements for fraud convictions in high trust/credentialed industries
anyway sorry for blowing up you mentions, this isnt intended to convey frustration at *you*, i just have a lot of thoughts about how things went down this year!
more generally, i think the model of cold recruiting reviewers/ACs from outside your target discipline is kind of bizarre? why are you building your disciplinary event using the judgement of people who are not in your discipline? seems like a confusing way to establish/enforce disciplinary norms?
that's not interdisciplinarity or even basic professional collegiality. thats CS exploiting scholars in other disciplines to gain intellectual cred while disclaiming community responsibiity to those scholars. and im kind of done playing that dumb game.
i dislike reviewer cultures that say, basically, youre enough to pick the guest list but not good enough to come to the party. i also dislike the humanities/critical disciplines being used to legitimate the interdisciplinary claims of STEM while being boxed out of any actul professional benefit.
ah shit im so sorry
yeah i think relying on self-id and ranking does not contradict what i said. if there's a general dislike of qual+critical work in the reviewer pool, inviting qual+critical people to review is just setting them up to do a lot of free labor and then also personally insulted as i guess a fun bonus
im so sorry, friend ๐๐๐
i dont like knowing a lot about the 1970s right now
dael i think you need to stop teaching this class, the fate of the world is at stake
in undergrad i took one of those "post doc with a special interest" seminars on the History of the Philosophy of AI which means the past 18 months of LLM discourse have made me _so cranky_
can i just skip to the part in the embodied consciousness conversation where everyone has already read "What is it Like to Be a Bat"
oh its because i had an update! bsky.app/profile/did:...

i think my Gay Girl in Damascus/civic fiction article is Good Actually, and i think it offers useful theory tools for thinking through weird fake shit on the internet! journals.sagepub.com/doi/abs/10.1...
