The Bam discourse today is a result of watching Screamin’ A. Smith and Kendrick Perkins for the past decade.

Putting asterisks on everything, saying nothing matters without a ring. The league and ESPN abandoned storytelling and good journalism, and now you’re seeing the result.

Sixers longtime PA announcer Matt Cord will retire at end of 28th season Matt Cord, the Sixers’ legendary PA announcer, will retire at season’s end.

For the first time in nearly 30 years, the Sixers will have a new voice as their in-arena announcer — marking the end of a legendary era for Matt Cord.

What a crazy night in the NBA. Bam breaks the 80-point barrier (on 43 shots and 43 FTs), Jaylen Brown gets ejected in wild fashion, and Cam Payne puts the Sixers on his back — carrying them to a W in arguably the best game of his career.

Would defer to the guy smarter than me on that stuff @btoporek.bsky.social for that one

My theories (not sourced)…

- They targeted that pick because they know the salary scale would be lower than their own pick.

- They targeted that pick because acquiring a different team’s selection would open up other draft capital.

And I have a third one but I can’t let it rip quite yet lol

The angle about *that* trade that I haven’t seen brought up — they didn’t even get their own pick back. There’s a real chance they could’ve negotiated for it, considering they did nearly 24 hours before the deadline. I have theories, but I don’t understand how that didn’t get done.

If there’s any reason to watch tonight, it’s this. We haven’t really seen VJ Edgecombe with a bright green light yet. Let’s see what he can do.

Welp, Tyrese Maxey gets hurt on one of the final plays of the game, holding his right hand/finger and staying down for a long time.

The Sixers season went from fun, to good, to a nightmare real quick, with the trade deadline marking things from bad to worse.

The Sixers coaching staff has done a decent job on defensive scouting. That said, they’ve had absolutely no hope against Jalen Johnson this season. This guy has ran circles around their defense in pretty much every matchup.

Might be on an island with this one, but I’ve enjoyed the Cam Payne experience. He’s not a ****** replacement by any means, but he’s smart, sets guys up, and can get hot shooting. Playing well again today.

That… was certainly a game. 76ers get a desperately needed win to avoid slipping out of the 6th spot. Maxey + Grimes were just good enough. Bona filled in nicely, and they frankly don’t win without Jabari Walker: 22 & 10, 4/7 from 3. 1st back-to-back 20-pt games of his career.

There’s 6 minutes left to go. The Sixers are down 2 to a tanking Utah Jazz team. And Kyle Lowry is in.

🚨 Kyle Lowry has checked in for the 2nd quarter

Man, Jabari Walker is lighting it up. 4/4 from three tonight, with 15 points in just under 7 minutes of play.

I think a lot of noise surrounding this team has drowned out some of the Dominick Barlow hype. The guy is legit — long frame, embraces the dirty work. I also don’t think he’s quite right from the elbow thing, and he’s still playing good ball. Plenty of untapped potential at 22.

The shorthanded Sixers just got more shorthanded for tonight. Atleast it doesn’t appear to be serious.

Sixers host Utah Jazz on second leg of back-to-back It’s not quite a must-win, but the Sixers could really use a victory against a tanking Jazz team.

It’s tough to label a regular season game as a “must-win,” but for the Sixers, tonight might be as close as it gets.

The way people consume content and media these days is unsettling. There’s no room to explore an issue from multiple angles or have a nuanced conversation. Instead, they latch onto a single point — one tweet, one quote — and feel compelled to box you into one side or the other.

Just a brutal half of basketball. The Sixers are shorthanded, they look gassed again, and there are just terrible defensive breakdowns left and right. To make matters worse, VJ is hobbling around after a really hard foul.

The Sixers are putting Andre Drummond on Wemby. It’s gone about as well as you’d expect.

Geeking out over the throwback Sixers-Spurs broadcast. Maybe I’m a sucker for nostalgia, but this is so freaking cool. Just adds a totally different layer to the presentation.

MarJon Beauchamp yesterday with the Delaware Blue Coats: 40 PTS, 6 AST, 3 STL, 16/21 FG, 6/8 3PT, 25 MIN.

These are the kinds of games that prove whether G League production is the real deal. 16/21 as a guard or wing is absurdly efficient.

Pretty amazing that he iced the game with a three after going through that. From what I understand, injuries like that are especially painful at first. Missing three games isn’t terrible, but the timing is tough with two highly competitive matchups coming up.

Pretty awesome: NBC will recreate a 1995-96 NBA broadcast for Spurs-76ers on March 3 — announcers, graphics, replays, pregame show, score bug and even grainy flashbacks.

The “Throwback Tuesday” telecast starts at 7pm ET with NBA Showtime.

You know me, Bryan. I’m a next, next-level sicko and both questions are an easy yes for me. Way better than Andre Miller and friends forever being in the middle.

Tyrese Maxey is setting the standard for VJ Edgecombe — and the rookie is more than meeting it VJ Edgecombe might not break Tyrese Maxey’s record for threes in the future, but he’s already proven to be an ideal backcourt mate.

Loved this story from @paulhudrick.bsky.social. The bond between Maxey and VJ is awesome, and hopefully they’re a backcourt for years to come.

It did make me wonder though: if you knew it would lead to VJ, would you relive the 2024-25 season all over again?
