Today we handed in our open letter with a simple message:
UP THE ENERGY on COMMUNITY POWER.
A new energy system is already taking shape - cleaner, fairer and powered by communities. The ambition is there. Now let’s unlock it by turning plans into power.

Time to turn UP THE ENERGY on community power! And to kick things off this week, we’re heading to Westminster.

On Wednesday 4th March, a coalition of organisations will hand in an open letter calling on Government to #UpTheEnergy on community power.

How do we win hearts and minds for renewables while addressing reasonable fears in the community?

Our very own Marianne shared her perspective on BBC Radio 4, discussing her recently published book, The Shetland Way.

Check out the thought provoking interview:

Whether it's NatCon & Nigel Farage being shut down in Brussels, or the Palestine Congress and Yanis Varoufakis being silenced in Berlin, censorship of those we disagree with is not good. Freedom of speech is fundamental in any democracy, regardless of whether you lean left or right politically.

Shell says landmark emissions ruling won't help climate goals Shell on Tuesday told a Dutch court a 2021 order that it should drastically cut greenhouse gas emissions lacks a legal basis and risks obstructing the fight against climate change.

Should we trust Shell on this? Of course we bloody shouldn't πŸ˜‚

If there is one thing that has become extremely clear, it's that fossil fuel giants will not change and decarbonise significantly of their own volition.

Claire Coutinho, Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, tweets criticism of Labour's pledge to decarbonise the grid by 2030. Describes the pledges as 'mad' and accuses them of playing politics with Britain's energy supply.

It is so, so disappointing to see ambition on climate and energy continually politicised.

🌹 Labour aim to decarbonise our grid by 2030.
🌳 The Conservatives by 2035.

The difference in cost between those dates? Β£11.4bn

*somebody* is always going to pay for pollution. the question is who. the Trump team think that pollution should be paid for in hospital bills, human lives, and diminished ecosystems, not by the companies who generate it. it's that simple.

I’ve always been uncertain about geo engineering, but then again, what we’ve been doing for the past 200 years, and continue to do by emitting GHGs IS geo engineering, although unintentional. I think what you’re suggesting is pretty much inevitable at this stage.

There's a lot to suggest 2024 is going to be a pretty extraordinary year for Earth's climate. This graph is wild. After a record year for Global Sea Surface temperatures in 2023 (yellow line), just look how this year has started (red line)...
