You mentioned in a recent episode that you weren’t sure where people got the idea that the players eat a real breakfast at the hotel before arriving to the castle for smoke salmon. I’d seen that detail mentioned here: www.realityblurred.com/realitytv/20...

Today is also the anniversary of FDR's signing of Executive Order 9066, which authorized the forced removal of 120,000 Japanese Americans from the West Coast.

Really hard to look at this and all the other examples of bravery and kindness from ordinary people in this moment not think also of the tremendous cowardice exhibited over the past year by some of the richest, most well-protected people in business, media and politics
Statement from Michael and Susan Pretti Parents of Alex Jeffrey Pretti “We are heartbroken but also very angry. Alex was a kindhearted soul who cared deeply for his family and friends and also the American veterans whom he cared for as an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA hospital. Alex wanted to make a difference in this world. Unfortunately, he will not be with us to see his impact. I do not throw around the ‘hero’ term lightly. However, his last thought and act was to protect a woman. The sickening lies told about our son by the administration are reprehensible and disgusting. Alex is clearly not holding a gun when attacked by Trump’s murdering and cowardly ICE thugs. He had his phone in his right hand and his empty left hand is raised above his head while trying to protect the woman ICE just pushed down, all while being pepper sprayed. Please get the truth out about our son. He was a good man. Thank you.
Kare 11 local news just read, in full, this statement from Michael and Susan Pretti, the parents of Alex Pretti.
"Please get the truth out about our son."
Alex Pretti, the man shot by ICE in Minneapolis, appears to have previously worked with the federal government at the VA.
There is a photo of him on the VA website, where he’s cited as part of a medical research team.

I have a long-running list of surprising eponyms, and in this dark time I wish to share my amusement with you.
To clarify, an eponym is something named for a person. “Newton’s Laws” are called that for Isaac Newton. A surprising eponym is just that.
So, let’s begin.

I think some of the greatest delights in the business of etymology are words—especially everyday words—whose origins we just don’t know.
So, this year, I’ll do an etymological Advent calendar on this theme: words with origins that are obscure, uncertain, or otherwise unknown.

Tori Amos has an idea. But not an idea for a song-a new drink. Returning to Seattle for her second-visit this year, Amos is eager to find an audience for her latest experi-ment in beverage concoction. "You have all your Starbucks things," she says. "Wett, I have one that tastes like pumpkin ple: It's my own invention; it's my contribution to Halloween. A little witch warmer!" 1 Amos more ardent fans would probably say she hardly needs to resort to creating pumpkin lattes to bewitch a crowd. The emotive singer/songwriter's first solo album, .1992's Little Earth quakes might not have been a com
One more PSL post because I can't resist: Apparently Tori Amos was a pumpkin spice latte innovator in 1994! And specifically contrasted it to the drinks at Starbucks.
