On peut représenter ce système consonantique selon le schéma ci-dessous : (a diagram, described below) (1) Ou 10 consonnes, suivant que l'on compte ou que l'on ne compte pas le ṛ emphatique comme un phonème. --- the diagram plots all phonemes in relation to each other on three axes. at first glance think of a 3d depiction of a sidewalk going left/right, that has 8 segments. the 2nd segment from the left is extended upwards in 3d to make a cube, as are the rightmost two segments. the sidewalk is basically a 3d table and each corner or junction between sidewalk segments is where a phoneme is notated in more detail: the plain unvoiced row, the further-away side of the sidewalk, is f t s null š k null null h. the plain voiced row, the nearer side, is b d z l j g null null null. t s are extended upwards in 3d to connect to emphatic ṭ ṣ, and d z are likewise extended upwards to meet ḍ ẓ. the nulls at the right end are also extended upwards in 3d: the voiceless consonants on that side that pattern as emphatics are ḫ, ḥ (notated with a fancy curly h), and ʾ, and the voiced ones are ġ, ɛ. the phoneme b is extended forwards to connect to nasal m, creating a perpendicular row f b m for labials, and l is also extended to connect to n in the same manner. lastly, l is extended into the back to connect to r (which is behind the row of plain unvoiced consonants), which has a line going upwards in 3d to connect to ṛ
