Without romanticising the unrelenting harshness of the wild environment the inhabitants have to work and live within. I find myself in awe of her writing. #Booksky #Fiction

1/2 Still immersed in this. Hallβs debut novel. I find her writing of nature combined with the human element so powerful & reminiscent of Hardy and Lawrence (must return to at some point). The parochial presentation of her writing portrays perfectly the Cumbrian rural community Without romanticising the unrelenting harshness of the wild environment the inhabitants have to work and live within. Ironically the little dog who accompanied Harold part of the way on his pilgrimage was a Border Terrier! #Booksky #Film
Watched The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry last night, read and loved all the books of Rachel Joyce. Gave me goose flesh at the end with identical shots to those we took 18 months ago when my husband had been diagnosed with aCML and was awaiting a stem cell transplant. #Booksky #Film
Another novel by Cumbria author Sarah Hawes. I walked in Mardale in the summer drought of 1995. . It was both fascinating and eerie walking where the water would normally be. I remember walking over the Chapel Bridge which was visible and the ruins of buildings.
This was such a personal and moving read by a brave author.
Fabulous novel as are his other works.
A wonderful writer!
A new book ready for a new week. A change of genre - a romantic horror. #Booksky #Fiction #Reading #Books
Great book! πππππ#Booksky
Itβs opened, Iβm going in!!
Next up. Picked this one up in a charity store, itβs had great reviews. #Booksky
Sarah Hall is a new author to me this year. I love her writing , this short story is no exception. Amazing how much emotion she has packed into 36 pages. Her use and description of nature adds passion and impact to her writing. A story of never really knowing someone nor being able to possess them.
Thank you. Itβs my favourite! Apart from being green itβs so pretty!
Incense burner on and Mrs Fox next. A short read. #Booksky
I studied psychobiology in my 30s and would have loved to pursue brain study as a career but it just wasnβt possible given my personal circumstances. Iβve enjoyed reading this book and remembering my studies- yes I can remember what was deep learning! #Booksky #Alzheimers #Dementia #LisaGenova
Anyone who is worried about developing Dementia or Alzheimerβs or like me is recognising the signs of aging and memory loss will be able to take something away from this super book. I rely on my I phone so much for scheduling and itβs good to read that itβs a recommended strategy
Lisa Genova is one of my favourite authors. This one is a non fiction and Iβm loving it. #Booksky #NonFiction
