Used to be like that for me when I lived in the country. Took a while in the city to find my feet. But now I write about country life and city life similarly.
Great Blue Heron stands
in marsh water
motionless as I stare
for so long I begin to wonder
if I’m imagining its presence.
When, finally, its wings reveal
and lift into the air
in slow scoops
all the marsh shudders
for a moment with new breath.
