Hereβs my full video on Day 5 of the Ken Sim and Sean Orr saga.
A bit of todayβs news, a bit of historical context to the story, a bit of answering @seanorr.bsky.socialβs challenge to me earlier this week.
I *think* the story will recede now, but given the weirdness of it all, weβll see!
Thanks Arminder. Always appreciate your #vanpoli insight as well.

Ken Sim, in his lack of forthright disclosure, or what some might call lying, seems determined to keep this story going π€

Yes, the change 2x a year is definitely the worst, but you missed the bit about there being consensus among sleep experts that if weβre moving to a permanent system, standard time is superior to DST for health & safety, as it aligns with human circadian biology.
Wrong about the βrealm of data that says it supports better outcomesβ. Not changing the clocks is good, but data shows standard time far better for health and well being. bsky.app/profile/brom...
Here is one from Canadian Sleep Society saying basically the same thing. There is a lot of research out there if youβre interested. css-scs.ca/society-news...
All the science supports that position bsky.app/profile/mdob...

I canβt overstate how strongly I oppose this. Yes, time change sucks, but if weβre doing away with it, ALL of the science says permanent standard time is the way to go.
3 candidates per party max, anything over 7 is diminishing returns, you dilute your own vote.
Also, yes these 3 parties need some kind of accord, but they need to consider centrists/liberals too. Some Sim voters are Eby voters are Carney voters. If/how Allam & Bligh play into this matters too.
Many suggest governmentβs role is providing assistance to people in (a) crisis, limiting our vision of public goods and the state.
Like Ruth Wilson Gilmore said, "Public goods should never be means tested. That's the entire point of a public good! And should be as permanent as anything imaginable.β
Sorry to get radical but I donβt think itβs my job or yours to embrace, accept, understand - and certainly not to use - the thing being sold to us as AI. I donβt like any part of it, so I wonβt. Iβm missing out? Good, thatβs what I want. Youβre worried about me missing out? Thatβs fuckin weird, man.
Amending BC's Declaration Act would "set back our collective reconciliation efforts by decades," say dozens of civil society groups and prominent Canadians in a joint statement
"Now is not the time to cede ground to those who cynically spread fear and doubt about that vital work" #bcpoli
We do not have to fall over ourselves saying that we love technological progress. The onus is on them to explain to us why we should be excited about new technology while there are microplastics in every mother's breast milk and our rivers are drying up
"The first person to be executed for treason in the US was not a spy or someone who sold secrets to a foreign government. It was not a Confederate general who took up arms against his government. It was an abolitionist named John Brown." from @nhannahjones.bsky.social www.nytimes.com/2026/02/13/m...
"Moderna's CEO announced the company will no longer invest in new Phase 3 vaccine trials for infectious diseases: 'You cannot make a return on investment if you don't have access to the U.S. market. Vaccines for Epstein-Barr virus, herpes, and shingles have been shelved.β 9:12 AM Feb 12, 2026 604.8K Views
In terms of what cures are being lost:
- Epstein-Barr virus is perhaps the major trigger for multiple sclerosis
- herpes simplex virus causes cold sores, genital herpes, infections in babies, deadly meningitis
- shingles virus causes an intensely painful disease
it's incredible to contemplate the volume of civic funding and effort spent appeasing:
- people who find the sight of poverty more offensive than evidence-based public health policy
- drivers who think bad traffic is a human rights violation
- residents who recoil from shadows like reverse-vampires
Great politics should look like a party you want to join

Epstein's world is our world. That's the darkest revelation of these files. He wasn't an aberration. He was our culture made flesh. A culture that's now encoded into 1s and Os and is growing exponentially baked into the algorithms that power our social media platforms, replicated at scale and fed into the large language models that Epstein's friends are building which are powering our future.

Iβll be interested to watch how these sentiments & people play out in the upcoming BC Conservative leadership race. Weβve already seen people with despicable hate-based views elected as BC Conservatives. Shouldnβt have to say it, but new leader should have zero tolerance for it. Weβll see. #bcpoli
HOPE, FOR ME, COMES FROM THE PASTβ BY ESSAYIST REBECCA SOLNIT βHOPE IS THE THING WITH FEATHERS,β EMILY DICKINSON famously wrote, and that often leads to pictures of doves sitting quietly and looking sweet, but what if hope is an albatross that can soar for years without stopping, or an osprey that can haul a thrashing salmon out of rough waters? People tend to think hope is fluffy and frail, but itβs the force that has kept people going in the worst circumstances, the commitment to pursue the possibilities even when they seem remote. There are so many things hope is not: it is not optimism, which assumes that the future will be fine, and which requires nothing of us, any more than cynicism, despair, defeatism and doomerism do. It is not a prophesy of the future, since it arises in part from recognising that we make the future in the present and that it will be shaped by countless factors, visible and invisible, including our own participation. It is not an upbeat feeling or a feeling at all, since people in the worst circumstances have hoped that their efforts to free themselves might be met with success, that their bleakcondition might not be permanent or that their children might live to see a better time. second half of text with second post/photo
