“In the preface, he declares that all royalties will be donated to
the Scientific Integrity Fund. His motives for writing seem to be two-fold: firstly, to help
himself make sense of how he became embroiled in a scandal about honesty research, and to
describe what could have been done differently.”

The author probably recognised perceptions about writing any book, particularly as the "signing first" authors had already benefited from their paper in different ways, at least initially. As to whether the book contains new insights, hopefully that will be clearer from my review 🙂

Paper Mills and the Industrialisation of Scientific Fraud
Scientific fraud is often imagined as a rogue researcher.
But a recent study shows how paper mills can produce scientific articles on an industrial scale.

The Collection of Open Science Integrity Guides
Pseudoreplication is the practice of treating non-independent observations as if they were independent replicates. This can dramatically increase the rate of false positives.
COSIG's newest entry covers how to spot them. Read it at osf.io/hyxvr

A graphic promoting a book review. On the left is the cover of the book Inside an Academic Scandal: A Story of Fraud and Betrayal by Max H. Bazerman. The cover has large orange and black text and an abstract horizontal paint‑stroke graphic beneath the word “Scandal.” On the right, black text reads: “Jennifer Byrne reviews Inside an Academic Scandal: A Story of Fraud and Betrayal.” At the bottom right is small text that reads “Vol. 46 No. 1 (2026): February,” alongside a small circular logo with the letters “PIR.”
Jennifer Byrne (@jabyrnesci.bsky.social) reviews Max H. Bazerman’s 'Inside an Academic Scandal', a narrative of research misconduct, institutional response, and the ethical challenges surrounding fraud in academia.

Scientific datasets are riddled with copy-paste errors
Initial results from scanning through Excel files belonging to 600 published scientific papers.
Today, a study was published on Science Detective featuring case studies of datasets published on Dryad.
The study is a testament to the importance of #opendata in supporting research integrity by enabling validation.

Image of a hand holding a tablet that displays the colorful cover of Philosophy in Review Vol. 46, No. 1. The cover features bold overlapping shapes in red, yellow, pink, blue, and black. To the right, white text on a dark textured background reads: ‘Fresh issue. Fresh cover. Fresh reads. Philosophy in Review (Vol. 46, No. 1) is now available!’ Below the text is the Philosophy in Review logo.
We’ve got a brand‑new issue (and a brand‑new cover 👀).
Vol. 46, No. 1 is live — take a look and see what we’ve been reviewing!
