I’d probably say Space is Only Noise or the first AAL. That first 2011 release has such a great immersive nocturnal atmosphere. Sirens never clicked for me outside a few tracks. It just felt too intentionally “big and important” for my tastes.

I really miss that 2005-2012 run. Each album strikingly different than the one before, yet always Liars-y. Favorite is a toss up between DND and Sisterworld.
Between November and March, this is the best Mount Eerie album.
Love this so much, especially the juxtaposition of English folklore paths with an Amazon spokesperson going out of their way to deny a person driving their branded vehicle is an employee.
There's too much ambient music. Things would improve if ambient musicians had to produce a symphonic power metal LP, a Carnatic grindcore ballet or a jazz fusion opera in F# Phrygian once every 5 years, just to show they can (cf The Straight Story) before being allowed to fire up the reverb again.
"House Husband" out now! A collection of abstract house and ambient tracks I worked on over the course of being a stay-at-home dad last year. For fans of Shinichi Atobe, Kompakt, Caribou, and DJ Sprinkles.
Also for fans of electro-acoustic baby sounds and poorly EQd kick drums.

Preorder is up for my new album “House Husband”, an abstract deep house album informed by my time as a stay-at-home dad.
RIYL: Shinichi Atobe, Caribou, DJ Sprinkles, and Burial.
Also RIYL: noise and electro acoustically treated bay sounds

In my experience, it's just online reactionaries and rage-bait social media posts. Yet to hear anyone around me (Boston area) talking about their deep fear of London crime.
That being said, my last visit to the UK, I had chewing gum shoved in my mouth at a pub in Ulverston. Maybe I should be afraid.
My strange observation on that 2018-2022 era:
It’s like a soundtrack to a sunny vacation destination devoid of any people; weirdly cheery but also has this unsettling liminal quality to it.
Yea! My first experience with his stuff was the moodier dubby sound of ship-scope/Butterfly. The 2018-2022 “sunshiny” era was initially jarring but now I’m hooked.
Picked up a copy of Butterfly Effect this summer and now I’m fully Atobe-pilled.
His music is so simple on the surface but seriously rewards repeat listens. Having a hard time picking a favorite album.
Feel like this definitely fits the vibe.
I really dug their 2017 album but never clicked with this one. Maybe I gotta give it a few more rinses.
Gas - Konigsforst
Happy fall.
There’s something incredibly Zen about these releases. The lyrics are like Cold Mountain poems if Cold Mountain moseyed around his garden in his slippers with a half warmed cup of coffee.
Cole Pulice - Land’s End Eternal
Playing one of the best sax albums of the year (now with added tape hiss…)
Yes! Loved it
One of my holy grail records. Been waiting for a reissue for years…
I’m constantly on the lookout for albums that scratch the Jeremiah Chiu/Maria Honer itch.
Incredibly visceral, transportive stuff.
First crisp September day calls for a trip up to New Hampshire for a hike with tiny guy. Astral Industries releases always providing top notch road trip soundtrack.
“International” is my clumsy way of categorizing “world” music. Within international, I have categorizations for reggae, Brazilian MPB, compilations with a strong geographic specificity (Indonesian psych from the 60s)…
Still feels awkward and reductive/problematic to categorize International tho..
I’ve got them categorized by genres as you’d find them at a record store. Easier for me to pick a record if I know I’m feeling folk and then pick an album alphabetically from there. Tricky thing is in genres like “electronic” where it feels weird to have Aphex Twin next to Silver Apples.
That Moonshake is one I've been meaning to grab! Discovering the Too Pure back-catalog a few years ago definitely re-wired how many brain thought of 90s post-rock.
Pretty much. Coked up shitheads whose confidence or lack-thereof depends on "vibes".
This is fantastic. Kinda taps into that loose 90s version of post rock where anything goes.
Gastr del Sol- Upgrade and Afterlife
Find of the year at my local record spot… Gastr Del Sol’s Upgrade and Afterlife.

Definitely a formative band and formative album for me, but looking back on those years they served more as a gateway to other more experimental bands, than as a band I regularly reach to put on.
This is top notch 👌. Always coming through with those boundary pushing 90s groups.

We've got 30 free download codes for the latest Raptors project, Treasure Box Vol. 1. It's a strange album that veers between classic indie rock, abstract interludes, atmospheric electronic, and bizarre offbeat humor.
