As a parent, I liken social media to driving. Kids brains just aren't developed enough to understand the risks. Sure there may be utility to allowing 13 year olds to drive, but we don't. Instead we find other ways to get them places. Bullying, diet culture, blackmail, manosphere, so many issues.

The most cringe part of Juneteenth yesterday was my boomer dad had to look it up to explain it to my 7 year old.
The best part was, he looked it up and unflinchingly explained it. A white military veteran. Of course he then went on to talk about military campaigns of the war & 7 walked away bored.

Well to do white women have managed (as we do) to weaponize the phrase 'gentle reminder' against each other. Can we just...not? Like do we not have bigger fish to fry than to jump on each other for perceived infractions of progressiveness?
I have a question about the SAVE act, and my question is this: Does it not impact the Republican base as much as or more than Democrats?

We can praise people for following the broad themes of inclusion, kindness, care for our fellow person and our environment. The moral arc of the universe can be a multifaceted rainbow, not a straight black and white line. /fin
For the love of hope, save your outrage for the right people. You don't need to give people a complete pass, but you can praise their moves in the right direction and use that as a starting point for discussion. For the party of diversity, we can do a better job celebrating a diversity of opinions.
A smart, dedicated, brown woman with an amazing record of public service had a nuanced view on an extremely challenging topic? Obviously, we can't vote for her. (look where that got us--that people you were trying to protect are worse off).
Moral absolutism is the bane of the left/progressives. Oh, Sen Cory Booker doesn't agree with EVERYTHING I say? His effort is useless. Oh, a major insurance leader just raised his voice about climate change ruining our economy? He didn't do it the 'right' way and he's an 'idiot'. And people wonder..
why everyone is mad and doesn't get on board. It's impossible to do 'progressive' the 'right' way. People want to fit into a group, but the rules for this 'in-group' are incredibly complicated. I'm so exhausted by the outrage, all the time.
