As a parent, I liken social media to driving. Kids brains just aren't developed enough to understand the risks. Sure there may be utility to allowing 13 year olds to drive, but we don't. Instead we find other ways to get them places. Bullying, diet culture, blackmail, manosphere, so many issues.

Posts from Sen Mark Warner and AOC condemning the Iran bombing
Perfect summation of the Democratic comms issue, speaking as someone that works on how organizations position themselves outwardly. Clear unambiguous statement from @aoc.bsky.social. Long, general statement from @markwarner.bsky.social. I'm a fan of Warner (voted for him at one point!) but, yeah.

The most cringe part of Juneteenth yesterday was my boomer dad had to look it up to explain it to my 7 year old.
The best part was, he looked it up and unflinchingly explained it. A white military veteran. Of course he then went on to talk about military campaigns of the war & 7 walked away bored.

My 7 year old today:
"The best way to win rock paper scissors is with love <shows love sign>.
Because love always wins."
New Iran /Israel strategy recommendation (and everything else that ails us) guys, give it a go.
She went on to say that "black hole is also really good but not as good" 😂

No,
We pledge allegiance to the beauty
Of differences bound together by ideals
We rise together, in community
Citizens of each other, and our dreams.
E pluribus civitas
No Kings

We therefore pledge allegiance,
Not to the tired fabric of the old world–
Bloodied, torn, and fragmented.
Built on the backs of our neighbors
Knowing that if some are not free, none are.

We rise again, together in community
Or fall apart, alone.
So rise again, at the death and birth place of dreams
To build back better
Our hopes for freedom.
Not as one, but as a whole.
Different threads of a beautiful tapestry,
Made more beautiful by the stark differences of self-hood.

From many, not one, but strength–
Strength in difference, strength in shared dreams.
From many, not one, but bound
Different threads bound
To make a stronger cord

Over centuries,
Through bitter learnings, wisdom
No one is free if some are not free.
We must learn
To follow the arc of the universe
To capture an essence of freedom, as community.
From many, not one, but whole–
Wholly together, wholly entwined.

The beginning of the poem "E Pluribas Civitas"
As Patriots, we rose
Breaking free, fired by justice
On land stolen
A Nation, forged in strife,
at the sepulcher and birthplace of freedom.
We said– From many, one
But meant, From many, some.
By the sword we sought peace, but only under Liberty
Yet it was Liberty for the few, not all.

Through bitter learnings, wisdom

To capture an essence of freedom, as community.

Well to do white women have managed (as we do) to weaponize the phrase 'gentle reminder' against each other. Can we just...not? Like do we not have bigger fish to fry than to jump on each other for perceived infractions of progressiveness?

I have a question about the SAVE act, and my question is this: Does it not impact the Republican base as much as or more than Democrats?
To be clear, I think it's terrible either way and in no way support it. I'm more curious for the stats on who it would impact wrt political affiliation.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt apparently told reporters: “Boys will be boys.” about Musk and Navarro.
Can I suggest Ms. Leavitt, our government should not be run by 'boys', but preferably grownups? I know a well-qualified woman. Perhaps they need a mother to set them straight?

How the Recession Accidentally Helped the Planet
Overall, the economic downturn led to more than 80% of the total reduction in carbon emissions between 2007 and 2009.
Global recession...the sneaky way to fight climate change? Was Trump an environmentalist all along?

We can praise people for following the broad themes of inclusion, kindness, care for our fellow person and our environment. The moral arc of the universe can be a multifaceted rainbow, not a straight black and white line. /fin

For the love of hope, save your outrage for the right people. You don't need to give people a complete pass, but you can praise their moves in the right direction and use that as a starting point for discussion. For the party of diversity, we can do a better job celebrating a diversity of opinions.

A smart, dedicated, brown woman with an amazing record of public service had a nuanced view on an extremely challenging topic? Obviously, we can't vote for her. (look where that got us--that people you were trying to protect are worse off).

Moral absolutism is the bane of the left/progressives. Oh, Sen Cory Booker doesn't agree with EVERYTHING I say? His effort is useless. Oh, a major insurance leader just raised his voice about climate change ruining our economy? He didn't do it the 'right' way and he's an 'idiot'. And people wonder..

why everyone is mad and doesn't get on board. It's impossible to do 'progressive' the 'right' way. People want to fit into a group, but the rules for this 'in-group' are incredibly complicated. I'm so exhausted by the outrage, all the time.

Say what you will about (property) insurance...but this is an industry that knows climate change is real because it's already hitting their bottom lines. You can remove the data all you want, we still know climate change is coming for us all. (General vibe at an insurance event I'm at)

My daughter (6), while listening to Mulan: "I'm glad people don't think women can't do things anymore like the old days".
I said, "unfortunately some people do still think that.
And she said "well, they're a raging dumb pants and I'm just going to ignore them.
So take that SecDef Hegseth.
