There's one belting it out in my garden as I work! Definitely feels new over the last few years to hear them so early, and they seem more 'present' somehow. A very welcome change if it is one!

Welcome to the UK! Sorry about all the grey weather and for the general gloom. Also: pigeons.

There's an advert on telly for Copilot, which seems to be a business negotiation. One party offers a price, and the other party is shown typing "They offered XX, how much can we afford?" into Copilot. This is what we are training: a cohort of people with no agency or expertise, but tarted-up Bing.

Sounds like the author shouldn't have been an author if they didn't recognise their own work.

Yeah but imagine how many pages of justification you'd need to ask a university for that amount of money. Getting Β£15k a pop just for a few lines of email sounds refreshing.

We have an institutional policy that things start on the hour and end at ten to. It's become such a norm that people will just sign off Teams meetings if they go over. The ten minute buffer is as much a cultural expectation as a siesta or a proper lunch break in other countries.

Emma Raducanu splits with coach Francis Roig after Australian Open exit British number one Emma Raducanu splits with coach Francis Roig after her exit from the Australian Open.

I know nothing about tennis and don't really care, but it seems that I only ever hear about this player when she's exited a tournament early, and/or sacked a coach.

I have a strong belief that scientific instruments like questionnaires should not be have the same copyright protection as other text. Yes you can assert authorship, no you can't stop people using it.
