That’s half facetious but our failure to build enough housing is costing us major political capital in DC — and electoral votes, the thing that elects presidents.

here’s the thing, if you toll it at this rate, you’ll automatically decrease traffic by limiting entry and exit points (good), and charging drivers what they cost the state to use the road (good) so you no longer need to widen the highway (the best outcome)

Granted, it also doesn't take 15 minutes to go from Prairie St to Blue Island, so the system works
If we're taking the schedule at its word, that means 117 will overtake 317 on the branch. That seems... unlikely
Truly a warm weather day
What are the odds those are supposed to be stop times at Longwood and Washington Heights rather than on the branch?
Most Chicagoland residents don't live in Chicago.
Most Chicagoland jobs aren't in the city proper.
The suburbs need reliable, efficient, accessible transit too.
Millions of Chicagolanders live in one suburb and commute to another suburb on trips that are simply impossible on existing transit. As city NIMBYs continue to pull up the ladder behind them by fighting more housing near existing transit, we need to create a reliable, truly regional transit network.
As always, if you'd prefer not to give Substack traffic, the original Diverging Approach blog lives on back at the train crawl website www.yard-social.com/diverging-ap...
Transit is a great medium-term way to attack foreign energy dependence, and yet, here we are, shooting ourselves in the foot, again!
There Have Been No Approvals for New Transit Projects in the First Year of the Current Trump Administration
For the 1st time in the 1st year of a presidential administration since at least 1993, under Trump 2, the Federal Transit Administration signed 0 new contracts for major transit projects, like subways or light rail.

Better things are possible. We’re building out our battery of #BuildTheTunnel resources to make the case to decision-makers, the future NITA board, and friends and neighbors throughout northeastern Illinois. Dive in and share to help us unlock Chicagoland’s potential with CrossTowner regional rail.

Real patriots ride the train.
500 households adjacent to a Metra station: infinite traffic
350 new daily commuters: no change to traffic at all

Cancelling the 3:05pm local instead of the 3:00pm express is certainly a choice

CORPORATE KING OF THE SUBURBS
It begins
Oh, so USDOT cares about “equity” now, huh
Election is in a week and a half and Forest Park has a parade today, call it a hunch but I think some IL-07 candidates will be in attendance

Lena Phillips made history as the CTA's first female motorwoman 51 years ago today. As she tells it, she wasn’t trying to make history, but just needed a job at the time.
Here’s to all the women who keep Chicago moving every single day and the ‘L’adies who make history along the way.
