You wouldn't tell a person in a wheelchair they look like they could walk or a deaf person they look like they can hear.

Mortuary archaeology tells us about what the individuals burying someone thought, not about how the deceased thought about themselves ( most of the time) so it is important to try and find those things in the record that help us understand individual perceptions and identity.
