Chirp #5 is out! We sat down to plan the road ahead for Budgie 11, got live panel configuration working, and polished up 10.10.

Take care :)
I will be live Wednesday (today for me :P) at 1530 UTC for more Budgie 11 work! I will be implementing configuration in our panel for budgie-shell, particularly: screen edge, per-region extension lists, and per-output (more to come there later).

New Chirp is out. Budgie 10 gets independent compositor theming, Budgie 11's panel evolves with a new QML loader, and Magpie gains focus methods. Oh, and we redesigned the website.

Happy coding :)
Tomorrow (Wed. Feb 4th) at 1530 UTC I will be live again for more Magpie development for #Budgie 11. I will be doing some (necessary) code cleanup / re-organization, taking a look at #Qt6 QKeySequence, and Mir / Miral API exploration!
Bit of a lighter one for this week, but still solid updates across Budgie 10 and Budgie 11 regardless!
Read about it at buddiesofbudgie.org/... and have a great week :)
Going to be live again tomorrow (Sunday, February 1st) at 1100 UTC for more #Budgie 11 Magpie development. Working on getting VOD from today uploaded separately (some audio tweaks and trimming), so keep an eye on my channel for that.
Our first minor release of #Budgie 10.10 series is out with Budgie 10.10.1! This release improves stability, fixes bugs, expands on our labwc support, and more!

Chirp 2 is live! π¦
This week, we have released Budgie Control Center 2.1.0, added "sloppy" focus support for Budgie 10.10.1, refreshed our website, continued our work on Budgie 11, and more!

Did you know weβre on OpenCollective? Developing Budgie 11 will mean capitalizing on your support for CI/CD and hardware in ways we didn't during 10.x. Donations are appreciated and thank you to all that have donated thus far! β€οΈ
Been going through the Mir docs, building out the next iteration of the @buddiesofbudgie.bsky.social Magpie compositor.
Just in a matter of a few hours we went from no compositor to one that is able to run budgie-panel. Looking forward to continuing to iterate on it! #Linux #OpenSource
Time for the first Chirp article! This one details new Budgie Control Center settings and 10-series maintenance, alongside Budgie 11 progress regarding our approach to configuration, architectural foundations, and early bootstrapping.

Small beginnings: #Budgie 11 panel in Qt6 and QML, leveraging LayerShellQt.
The code will looking nothing like this probably in a matter of days, but fun to iterate nonetheless!
Right, the one you really have been waiting for. Let's talk #Budgie 11 and how we plan on improving communication going forwards.

Massive thanks to all that contributed to make this release possible! π
Budgie 10.10 is here! π
This release marks our official migration from X11 to Wayland. Itβs a landmark moment that rounds out over a decade of the Budgie 10 series, allowing us to now put our focus towards Budgie 11.

Screenshot of Zen Browser with two webpages opened side-by-side in split view. Left panel shows the CI/CD with a successful build of budgie-desktop-services (shows cmake / ninja output), right panel shows the repo on the Forgejo with a green check mark next to latest commit.
Took some work and testing, but I have CI/CD validated using the forge that all the @buddiesofbudgie.bsky.social Budgie 11 bits will be on (as well as something else I'm cookin up) π
𧡠More to share in a blog post in a couple weeks! Looking forward to churning out development update posts as we FINALLY focus on 11. Budgie 10.10 has been quite the journey to say the least.

𧡠Got a #Budgie 11 Kickoff meeting scheduled for the team for this Sunday π
2026 is gonna be a great year for Buddies of Budgie, just as soon as we put this pesky 10.10 (truly the last major B10 release) in the rear-view mirror! (It's shipping in next Fedora and Ubuntu Budgie after all.)
Just tagged a new preview build of Budgie 10.10 (10.10-preview.2) with various bug and crash fixes, some missed adaptations for renamed desktop files, improvements for running Electron apps, and improvements for running in virtualized environments. #OpenSource

In anticipation of #Budgie 10.10's release and shipping in #Fedora 44, I have submitted a Change Proposal for its inclusion! I will be packaging up the components this week for rawhide π

BIg thanks to @conan-kudo.bsky.social for the help with the proposal π
Budgie 10.10-preview.1 is (as the name implies) a preview release and features unfinished components, but still excited to ship this!
Also don't think about checking what Budgie Display Services / Configurator are written in. π
The end to the saga of #Budgie 10.10 development is near! We just put out Budgie 10.10-preview.1, intended for packagers (e.g. Fedora and Ubuntu) to start shipping in preparation for their releases next year. π

While we are hard at work wrapping up features & functionality for Budgie 10.10 (so we can FINALLY move on to 11), we have just put out a Budgie 10.9.3 release to align with changes in GNOME 49.x.

Coming to a distro near you!

ICYMI: Fedora Budgie 42 and Fedora Budgie Atomic 42 will ship with Discover. It is very speedy and plays well with the atomic image (in that it doesn't have silverblue hardcoded as the rpm-ostree rebase image and result in users being surprised by a GNOME desktop after they upgrade!) π
