NEW: Some evidence in today’s government stats that asylum backlog is reducing:

- 64,000 people awaiting an initial asylum decision, 48% lower than 2024
- 107,000 people in receipt of asylum support, 5% lower than a year prior
- 31,000 asylum seekers in hotels, 19% lower than year before

This you?

β€œAnd here it is: the SEND reform plan, and why - for all its good intentions - it threatens a terrifying loss of rights, just when the worst imaginable govt might be newly in power. β€œ

Smart arse insults don’t help your case.

Yet the big takeaway from this analytical piece was negatively framed around β€œ a future government might change this”. It’s not about bigging anyone up it’s about fairness. As a Guardian reader of 50 years I don’t see that anymore.

In isolation it’s just a low level moan about a genuine attempt to improve a terrible system. Combine it with you and the rest of the papers output it undermines a Labour Government and makes a hard right replacement much more likely. You will have something to moan about then.

And you think that you and your colleagues are being β€œfair” ? Bloody hell you are a long way down the rabbit hole.

I wonder whether the penny will ever drop for Harris et al that the thing they fear most is made much more likely by their constant negativity towards a Labour government? Good thrown away on the altar of perfection.

Christ it must be good if that’s the worst the Guardian can muster.

Ignore the professional gloomsters and doomsters.
- Borrowing ⬇️ (record surplus last month)
- Inflation (and interest rates) ⬇️
- UK fastest growing European G7 economy
- Retail sales up 4.5% over the year
There’s lots more to do but Britain’s economy is on the mend.

Malik writing her weekly β€œ I hate Starmer” piece. The Guardians descent into irrelevance continues apace.

Sad sweet dreamers The editorial stance of The Guardian newspaper, as well as the opinions of its columnists, is of little relevance to The Great British Public. Certainly not compared to that of the Mail, Sun and the r...

NHS waiting lists have fallen to their LOWEST level in three years.

THAT is the difference a LABOUR government makes.

People who complain about a government delivering 70% of what they want will end up with one which delivers none of it.

Wes Streeting: "In an emergency, every minute matters.

We’ve delivered 500 new ambulances to help cut response times and keep more vehicles on the road this winter.

This government is doing all we can to back staff with the modern equipment they need to do their jobs safely and effectively."
