If I've understood correctly, I think it's gone through!

Not even an impact assessment! Mind boggling.

The average award in discrimination is irrelevant to unfair dismissal. Is the intention to increase protection for those earning above Β£118,223 p/a?

Awards in discrimination claims depend on the seriousness of the act. In unfair dismissal it is based entirely on the employee's losses. Senior execs earning 6 figure salaries will now be incentivised to bring a claim knowing they can recover significantly higher losses. Ruinous for business.

It's going to be a gift to high earners and senior executives, but no-one in the government seems to acknowledge that. Absolutely bonkers to introduce such a major reform without thinking through the implications or consulting with those who deal with it every day.

I'm struggling to follow it as I'm having to dip in and out - have they voted on day 1 unfair dismissal yet??

The 'do your quadratic equations' phase is far worse, believe me!

This headline overstates the legal significance of this Employment Tribunal decision. It was unfair and not in accordance with her contract to sack this worker on the spot for having said it. They should have gone through a disciplinary process. Think twice before having a word with your boss.

Employment Rights Bill has been passed by the House of Lords. It now goes back to the Commons to consider the amendments that have been made.

As a newly qualified solicitor I felt like I should know all the answers (and felt deficient when I didn't) but now I realise the job is all about asking the right questions. I wish I'd known that 25 years ago!

It looks like quite a significant amendment to Clause 25 and the re-introduction of 'one establishment' for the purposes of s188 thresholds, subject to the power to introduce a higher threshold across multiple establishments? At least, that's my (probably inept) reading of it...

The press release is out, but no sign (yet) of the consultation responses or the updated Bill. Bracing for impact....

Who will qualify for the right to be offered guaranteed hours? In the Employment Rights Bill Committee Stage debate on 3 December, the Government suggested that the scope of the new right might be wider than you think.

Getting more and more frustrated with the 'Right to Guaranteed Hours' under the Employment Rights Bill. You can't say anything sensible about how it will work because all the crucial details - a total of 15 of them! - are left to Regulations. It's not good lawmaking.
