The initiative @peercommunityin.bsky.social propose an alternative way with review of BioRxiv preprints by researchers for researchers (and not the profit of few shareholders of companies). It is supported by public institutes and is free for all. In that case, it is far easier to find reviewers 😌

Springer Nature Discovers MDPI – The Strain on Scientific Publishing Home page for the paper β€˜The Strain on Scientific Publishing’ by Mark A Hanson, Dan Brockington, Paolo Crosetto and Pablo Gomez Barreiro

Springer-Nature launched a series of "Discover" journals that closely mimic MDPI titles -- sharing *identical* journal names, and likely similar business model.

What is going on, and why researcher will - as always - fall for it?

Figure 2B from the paper in question, showing several Western blot panels (they look like light grey rectangles, some of which have a fat or thinner black horizontal stripe in the middle). I have marked some of these rectangles with boxes of the same color, highlighting those that look unexpectedly similar.

Figure panels from Figure S2, from the supplemental. On the left a blot or gel, showing dark background with white bands. On the right a more classical western blots showing light grey background with dark grey horizontal stripes. In both panels I have highlighted lanes that look remarkably similar, with colored boxes.

Does any journalist in Belgium want to write about this? It's so strange that none of the authors responded.

How can I react in my job from insane behavior of Trump ?

Should I change molecular biology reagents providers (there are excellent EU, JP, KR providers)?
Should I adapt the targeted journals for my publications?

Complaining will not work, it is only about money at the end.
Any other idea ?
