We are entering the Staggering of Timezones, which takes a month each equinox.
North America springs forward tonight. Europe goes into summer time at the end of March. Australia (some of it) falls back to Standard time on 5 April.
Good luck everyone with international meetings! β¨ππ
This is just so gross on all levels. π€’ To hell with Grammarly.
If you're interested in implementing some form of #SocialWriting practice in your institution, writing center, research group, classes or personal practice, come along to WRAP's third Annual Summit Meeting.π
If you support academic writers from academy-adjacent positions, you're also welcome!
Warning: AI even hallucinates while translating, adding mistakes and references that are not in the source text.
In other words: just having someone proofread your AI-generated translation isn't enough. Hire a professional (who will tell you it'll take less time to translate the text themselves).

We're a week out from my next online writing retreat.
Choose the express (1.5 days) or full retreat option (2.5 days).
Our focus will be on advancing your writing project in an environment that puts the writer, rather than the text, front and center.
When that happens...

π’ Why Saturday?
βThe reality of writing in an academic and research environment is that we sometimes need or choose to write on a Saturday.
βSupport & community make it easier to find focus and feel satisfied come Saturday afternoon.

I've just learned from Jennifer Yankopolus (of Macro of the Month) that I can make a custom tab in the MS Word ribbon just for key-but-lesser-used macros. And in the doing I found I can change the order of tabs, too.
Exciting!

The risk isnβt the technology. The risk is in people who should know better getting whipped up in the hype and helping normalize techβs narratives so we donβt pay attention to (and rein in) what theyβre actually doing in the present.

Brilliant, thank you!
I canβt speak to the paywalled Perel interview but Janeβs description resonates with what translators and authorsβ editors know (and is part of the value we bring to a piece of writing): the friction points we find in a text and query are opportunities for authors to further clarify what they think.

βThese metaphors matter because they shape how we understand our agency and responsibility...[and] because of what they leave unsaidβthe harder questions about identity, stigma, power, politics and structural change that individual consumption choices, however ethical, cannot answer alone.β

Fab thread on a study on special issues with guest editors: the scope of it all and the damage from this clear conflict of interest is pretty staggering.
Hello, just to say that my website is down, so it can't be seen and I'm not getting any emails that might have been sent through it.
