Good luck to the person who is going to diffuse the bomb. Wouldn’t be my job of choice.

Isabella of Portugal in an elaborate medieval red and gold dress. She holds a small book in her hand
Today, March 10, it is 500 years ago that Emperor Charles the fifth married the 23 year old Isabella of Portugal. There honeymoon trip lasted about a year and brought them to Southern Spain. Charles was born in Gent, Belgium and spoke Dutch, French, Italian, Spanish and Latin. (Wikipedia)

A sobering fact: We’ve lost around 3 billion #birds in North America since 1970 — a loss of nearly one in four birds.
And yet, this week a congressional panel is meeting to consider weakening the #MigratoryBirdTreatyAct.
We'll continue to fight for them.

"Parking is not a birth right" - Hans on the Bike - Cycling in Ottawa and beyond
Dutch architect Harvey Otten argues that free parking in the street is not a birth right and the cost should not be subsidised by others
I read a column about parking in the #Netherlands, a country with 18 mln people that easily fits between #Ottawa and #Toronto or #Montreal. Harvey writes “Parking is not a birth right”. Soon there is more space allocated to #parking than to housing.

Wherein Smith claims that "newcomers" are costing the province $9 Billion in social programs.
In order for that to be true, every single newcomer would have to be accessing social programs that many don't even have access to.
These are evil misrepresentations.

That is what I would expect. Were there people skating? I guess with the cold tonight all the damage will freeze and be rock hard and it is unskatable tomorrow.

Once again, the Mayor boasts about how low our taxes are - we’re not even keeping up with the rate of inflation. But this ideological obsession long pre-dates Sutcliffe. It’s a point of pride in Ottawa, a city with almost the highest median household income in Ontario. 1/

We skated this am south to north and back. On the way back a bit of a head wind and the ice started to feel softer. It was still -2 though. My guess is they will close the canal mid next week for the season. It took longer than normal.
