The US military can take over the Strait of Hormuz. But it would require a big ground invasion and sustained occupation of Iran’s coastline (at minimum).

The straightforward reason why I, with no access to classified info, knew the US had no plan is because they didn’t position the assets to do it.

Damn the way congressional members are reacting to this you'd think you'd just started a large-scale conventional conflict

Wait the smaller truck is even more effective at the job? WTAF.

And this is why we can’t have safe streets?

A thing which Donald Trump could do to facilitate surrender is to cease murdering people who could credibly facilitate it

"And this, he went on to speculate, is how the fascination with terrorism fits in. In part, of course, that fascination has to do with people's hostility to government. Everyone is fed up with government these days. The middle class and the rich because government is taking away too much from them, and the poor because government is not giving enough to them. Terrorism is antigovernment and therefore gratifying, potentially, to almost everyone.

If we made the green energy transition this war would be unthinkable and these authoritarians wouldn’t be in power — not in the US, not in Iran, not in Saudi Arabia, not in Russia. Hydrocarbons are killing our freedom and just plain killing us.

Sadly, we’re in a secular bull market for empty ideas that sound radical.

They have a MASSIVE incoming voter base of Millennials who are A.) About to be the new majority voter base for the first time B.) at the same moment they're collectively entering middle-age as C.) *also* the new majority "settling-down suburban income(s)" class - so the math is saying 'good idea.'

Pretty sure the ‘boycott is over’ news stories are wish fulfillment and crisis PR placement by the new 🎯 CEO. It’s not over among those I know.

Not ideal, but it's a winner 🤷‍♂️ The fact is, Millennials stepping into the "economic/voting-majority power-bloc" being rapidly vacated by Boomer die-off is going to drive any incoming Democrat 'comeback'/power-consolidation "wave" much more than anything we might prefer, and this responds to that

Trump is the weakest he’s ever been. That makes him so dangerous on Iran | Moira Donegan Why would Trump launch a foreign war when he is so domestically weak? Precisely because he is weak

"Why would Trump launch a foreign war when he is so domestically weak?" asks @moiradonegan.bsky.social.

"Trump cannot consolidate his authoritarian regime because he is simply not popular enough to do so."

You don't get to paper over the fact that they are bigots. They knowingly wanted to strip minorities and women of any historical representation. They killed projects simply because they had ethnic identities and genders attached.

Very silly to cite revenue as a reason REI can pay workers more when the company is not turning a profit

Yuuup, it’s going to be a while before companies realize that AI means if they want to grow they will need more people, not less.

In fact, the word "computer" used to describe not objects, but people. It was the word used to describe people who calculated complex equations by hand to be used in other technology, including rockets.

In the 20th century, many, if not most, computers were women! Because it was grunt work.

I have a hunch we’re going to see a lot of companies using “AI” as a buzzword for why they’re still a worthwhile investment even after the likely oil shock induced layoffs.

It feels like Trump etc are now getting bit by the assumptions that had previously benefitted them re: "Everyone thought there was a failsafe in place against exactly this, what do you mean there isn't?"

I clearly would have had my bases pump out anti-air units and then used landers to put them on both sides of the strait.
