DC is doing its first ranked choice election this year! It's a result of a voter initiative after the DC Council wouldn't pass a law on their own. Does IL have that option?

side note, i cannot BELIEVE that two of the people in this photo are still seeking dc citywide office in this the year 2026
Photo of a tweet that Muriel Bowser posted in 2014. It shows, from left to right, Jack Evans, Muriel Bowser, Donald Trump, Ivanka Trump, and Vincent Orange. They are all well dressed and smiling together and Trump is giving a thumbs up. The text that Muriel Bowser wrote along with the photo is "The only thing better than a groundbreaking is a ribbon-cutting! Can't wait 4 DC Trump Hotel in '16"
don't forget how much they each love a ribbon-cutting!!!!!
He should know that proposals for DC statehood would include a small federal enclave downtown that would remain the national capital while the rest of DC becomes an independent state
he should also know the difference between "Capital" with an A and "Capitol" with an O!
Wow -- @miguelfordc.bsky.social raised the most money of any Ward 1 candidate this month!
Come meet him and learn more about his campaign tomorrow night in Adams Morgan! partiful.com/e/UuTYQ9iv6O...?
Gotta start talking about it now so we're ready asap when we have the power to actually implement it
but what if it also encouraged people to drive more
Funny how the "we're not Manhattan!" argument is only ever used to promote pro-car, anti density agendas.
If I said "we should get rid of free street parking in my neighborhood, we're not Manhattan!" I doubt the mayor would take me seriously
Very clever of @mayorbowser.dc.gov to (illegally) delay the release of the congestion pricing study for years, then dismiss it for being out of date!
I guess fixing water fountains fits in the category of "doesn't make anything look different but improves people's lives" and fixing the big decorative fountains is "just makes things look better but doesn't really matter" and trump and co clearly only care about the second category
Wait for real? I assumed this meant they were finally dealing with all the water fountains that never work on NPS land, making it really hard to stay hydrated in the summer. They're not even doing that??
they are going to remove the PA Ave bike lanes for this and never put them back
"Kenyan McDuffie: Because Cars From Maryland Deserve A Voice In DC Government Too"
So @kenyanmcduffie.bsky.social sees how many people park illegally in DC -- many of them from MD or VA -- making our streets less safe, and his solution is to....make the penalties lighter so that people do it even more??
Mark your calendars, next Th #MBTpubroll starts at Grand Duchess at 5:30pm to coincide with a meet & greet for Ward 1 candidate @miguelward1.bsky.social who has a fantastic pro-bike platform! Afterward biking across the park to Judy's on 14th. Come one, come all, come pub roll for more bike lanes ๐ฒ๐ป
For purposes of this discussion I don't think it really matters whether the cost is imposed by the transit agency or the airport itself. The point is just that if it's that expensive to take transit to the airport, it encourages more people to drive, which is a bad outcome
yeah that's a particularly egregious example, but really it's true to some extent everywhere. DC's silver line to Dulles Airport is as high as $6.75, or taking the marc train from DC to BWI is $8 (or more if there are no marc trains running and you have to take Amtrak)
In Chicago they charge you more to take the train from OHare than any other station! It's $5 to enter at ord vs $2.50 at every other stop in the system
It should cost at least as much to take a car to the airport as it does to take transit! Maybe this would cut down on the chaos and stress surrounding the car pickup lanes at every single airport i have ever been to
Since I know I told a lot of folks about it, I want to make sure to flag that @miguelward1.bsky.social is POSTPONING tonight's transportation event till next Thursday, 3/12! Same location. All details are at partiful.com/e/UuTYQ9iv6O...?
and I still hope to see you there!
Come meet @miguelward1.bsky.social, whoโs running to be the next Ward 1 Councilmember in DC, tomorrow Wednesday, March 4 at 6:30 pm at the Grand Duchess to learn more about his transit & housing plans! partiful.com/e/UuTYQ9iv6O...
So to be clear, he thinks that mayor Bowser and DDOT were wrong to rip out the Arizona Ave bike lane, and to cancel the CT Ave bike lane, and he commits to reversing both of these decisions if he becomes mayor?
Or this bill he sponsored that makes it harder to hold dangerous drivers accountable: thedcline.org/2021/05/14/p...
As someone who's been following DC's mixed progress on bike lanes for about a decade, I can't think of a single time Kenyan McDuffie has been on the right side of the issue. For example, voting in 2020 to continue to stall the 9th Street bike lane dcist.com/story/20/03/...
Is he attending today's forum of the Walk Bus Bike PAC? Janeese Lewis George and Gary Goodweather are both scheduled to be there
anyone else unable to get into their pepco account because it insists on taking you to a broken 2FA signup page?
It could also be that he knows he has nothing to say to a pro-transit crowd. On the @ggwash.org candidate questionnaire he ignored the questions about bike lanes and, bizarrely, just copied and pasted his answers about buses
next they need to make it so that if you get to a dock an it's 100% ebikes, you don't have to pay to ride one
Was it shot on an iphone by any chance? They tend to use a weird video format that doesn't mix well with a lot of other software and things can look washed out.
curious if DPR will ever send me an alert about this! Seems like it should be so easy and yet I suspect it will not happen.
