The most helpful any everyday technology has ever been is GMail's "You wrote 'Attached is' but no files are attached." reminder and I don't need any tech to be more intelligent than that.

Sorry I'm not more open-minded about LLMs, it's just some fucking maniacs shoveled out a bunch of useless bloatware featuring that technology, did not give me any chance to opt out, reorganized the entire economy around it, zeroed out gains made by green energy, and made it impossible to buy RAM

A black, pink, and grey cover. The title is YOU’RE NO BETTER by Andrew Joseph White, written in scratchy text. The background is a shattered mirror with grey images - a man on the phone, a man drinking, an injured young woman - as a feminine trans boy in a school uniform kneels and looks at his bloody hands. There are crime scene photos on the floor at his feet.

Why do I have to pretend that I'm going to print something in order to save it as a PDF. Why do I have to engage in a little ruse.

The pronoun labeler, which was by far the most useful labeler on the site, was deleted by its creator. But thanks to @ripperoni.com there’s a new one available. I highly recommend it. It’s a great way to share your pronouns or see someone else’s pronouns at a glance.

This. I also read this as being "cringe and autistic," but you know what, both work for me.

I think people are expecting he'll go after the next round of elections (where he'll be thoroughly embarrassed). Streeting will probably hang on for a leadership contest, but I don't know if he's expected to win it. He won't resign regardless, but he'd probably end up in a different cabinet position

Oh, your plucky heroine disguised as a boy to hide her identity? Yeah, you left him unattended for 15 minutes and I told him about testosterone. Where is he now? Damn I dunno he took off like a pack of wolves was chasing him, you might have to find a new plot now.

The 1921 census required every household to identify a 'head' - assumed to be a husband - but it offered no way to record same-sex relationships. So how did women and gender non- conforming people record their lives? Often subversively, as some examples show 🧵 (1/6)

HELLO I'm so delighted to finally officially share A TRUE GENTLEMAN, the graphic novel I’ve been working on for the last few years & is very close to my heart.

Inspired by a lot of real queer & trans history and my own disability, with big marsh, big ships & BIG YEARNING #books

Everyone in their 20s is talking about the employed friend/unemployed friend dichotomy but won't anyone think of me, the friend in an embarrassingly lenient hybrid job who's cranking out fanfiction chapters at an alarming rate after a nearly six month writing slump

I am feeling super energised creatively at the moment, which is really cool and great and also makes me feel VERY ANNOYING because I want to talk about the things I'm making all the time but most of my friends are employed and cannot yap with me for hours at a time

Sure, one of them could say they found a passing reference to the concept in an old digitised archive, butI don't personally enjoy writing w rep anachronism. At the moment, they make a comment on their sense of separation from others + kinship with each other, but it's not clear enough. Aaaaaagh

Every so often I think about editing that book I drafted last year and I remember all the little details it needs, like the fact that the two main characters are autistic in a far-future setting where language to describe neurodiversity has been lost and I'm like ah. This is so much work.

A white and pink graphic reading “YOURE NO BETTER: Official summary,” with broken glass in the background.

Black text on a white background, reading:

“Bestselling author Andrew Joseph White returns with another horrific YA thriller: a profound portrait of a struggling teen trying to convince the world—and himself—that he’s better than the serial killer who raised him.

Morgan Slaughter, a seventeen-year-old trans boy with autism, put his serial killer father in prison years ago. Despite that, everyone thinks Morgan will grow up to be just like his dad: including his volatile mother, the documentary crew following their family, and maybe himself.

Desperately, Morgan latches onto his father’s final victim—the only one who was never identified—hoping that if he unravels the mystery, he’ll finally prove he’s better than the man who hurt him. But this puts Morgan in the crosshairs of classmate Felicity Keating, who knows the truth about Morgan’s childhood—that he wasn’t just a witness to his father’s brutality, he was an accomplice. And if he doesn’t let them help with his investigation? They’ll tell everyone.

Forced to confront his past, Morgan’s ugly but carefully controlled world unravels. The film crew is manipulative. His mother’s temper spirals into malice, then violence. And Morgan and Felicity may be more tightly intertwined than either of them can stomach…

You’re No Better is a gritty and unapologetic coming-of-age suspense about teens who grew up surrounded by cruelty and are clawing their way to adulthood the only way they know how.”

my newest novel, YOU’RE NO BETTER—a teen thriller about messy trans kids and serial killers—has an official summary!

this book is a rough one, and it tackles a lot of ugliness, but I love it so much and can’t wait to share it 💕

I think it would be quite nice for me to be able to wake up in the morning and think about my plans for the day, and more broadly about my own little life, instead of immediately having to ponder the overnight actions of The Guy Over There

I feel a little guilty, admitting it, because god if everything isn't shit right now and I have a lot of friends facing difficult times for a lot of reasons. But it doesn't have to be everything. I can unfuck the things within my reach. It helps a lot.

The aim is (mostly) simple: when I start feeling reflective, I want to be able to point to the fact that I've tried, and trick my brain away from thinking that I've done nothing. So far, it's helped me feel really happy about how I'm spending my time. I keep catching myself feeling happy, generally.

The OTHER thing I've been doing, though, is writing down every time I ~do~ something (ie read a book), or something happens that I feel is worth marking. 17 days into the year and that list has 12 lines

I was really really rusty on writing in late December (I failed on the habit building for a hot minute). Been writing every day for three weeks and have written multiple short stories (fanfic, my natural home for sure) and an essay (for the first time since 2022!) AND have read five books this year.

I skipped new year's resolutions and instead started trying to habit-build in December. I'm currently pretty consistently doing 45+ mins of focused reading and focused writing time every day, which is SIGNIFICANTLY more than I was doing for most of last year

In November I did a lot of thinking about how I was upset that I hadn't ~done more~ in 2025 (ignore the fact that I started a new job in December 2024 and bought a house in September. Apparently this did not count as reasons to not have ~done things~). REGARDLESS, I wanted to be less disappointed!
