My hunch is that non-autistic people do not spend months/years reading books about autism, following accounts of autistic people, paying for assessments, or feel the need for a formal process.
And if you pass the testβ¦you have a label that non-autistic people would not want.
I see what mine have had to do, and thereβs little on the skills theyβll need: basic, personal, social, occupational, citizenship. Some really useful courses are disparaged and discouraged. The more folk I meet from more backgrounds, the less faith I have that secondary schooling is for for purpose.
The school system we have is designed to produce professors, not the vast majority of life paths that people go on to take and the skills they need. Little about the planned secondary school experience, in particular, prepares children for what they are about to encounter on leaving education.

So, theyβre going after autistic people. Next itβll be people with ME/CFS.
Waitβ¦they already did those.
Dr @binitakane.bsky.social explains how a theory that #MECFS is caused by deconditioning and a fear of exercise permeated medicine and framed the illness as psychological. This led to the patients being neglected, gaslit, and some would say abused. Causing huge trauma for the community.

As an autistic (level 1) person... I feel like my autism is only about 10% observable (and due to YEARS of masking, you'd have to be looking VERY closely to see it) and 90% internal, which impacts every aspect of how I exist.
And I feel like more people should know this.
Seems this reflects a general finding that significant advantages remain (in muscle mass, bone structure and density, VO2 max, as well as any height and reach advantage obviously), hence the suggested open/third category. Thereβs usually a middle way, or I like to think soβ¦

Iβve been only twice. The border police treatment entering from Canada 8 years or so ago was bad enough.
There is virtually no better commercial you can run for the European defense industry than these two sentences uttered by Trump.
No matter with whom Iβm talking about this on this side of the pond, the common understanding is that this is going to severely damage the US industry.
From Rasmus Jarlow, Danish politician: "I don't know if there is a kill switch in the F35's or not. We obviously can not take your word for it. As one of the decision makers behind Denmark's purchase of F35's, I regret it. The USA can certainly disable the planes by simple stopping the supply of spare parts. They want to strengthen Russia and weaken Europa and are showing that they are willing to do tremendous damage to peaceful and loyal allies like Canada just because they insist on existing as a country. I can easily imagine a situation where the USA will demand Greenland from Denmark and will threaten to deactivate our weapons and let Russia attack us when we refuse (which we will even in that situation). Therefore, buying American weapons is a security risk that we can not run. We will make enormous investments in air defence, fighter jets, artillery and other weapons in the coming years, and we must avoid American weapons if at all possible. I encourage our allies and friends to do the same."
I mean... holy shit.
