It was a group of FIRST-YEAR UW med students (Particularly now-Dr. Naomi Nkinsi) who initiated the cascade of events that culminated in these outcomes. What a privilege to have been one of their instructors, earlier in the same year. An immense injustice, overturned.

Health Plan Disenrollment and Mortality After Initiation of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder This cohort study assesses the association of health plan disenrollment and mortality in patients treated with medications for opioid use disorder.

Health plan disenrollment following MOUD initiation "was associated with a 51% and 56% increase in the hazards of all-cause mortality and overdose mortality"

Relevant finding as states work to operationalize Medicaid work requirement exemptions for enrollees with substance use disorder.

Forced Disenrollments Among Medicare Advantage Beneficiaries Following 2026 Plan Exits This study examines the scale and impact of Medicare Advantage plan exits for beneficiaries.

A new Medicare "Advantage"drawback, shared by Sam the rural health advoCATe: rural residents are more likely to be forced out of a plan when it exits their area. Less choice for rural residents, but maybe better for underpaid rural facilities.

Rural Health Transformation Program Allocations and Rural Health Needs in the US This study examines associations between recently released state-level Rural Health Transformation Program funding and measures of rural health, access, and projected reductions in Medicaid spending.

Sam the rural health advoCATe is soooo tired of policies purportedly supporting rural that ignore rural reality. "RHTP...funding per resident was negatively associated with rural mortality" ... i.e., states with the least need get the most money.

Everybody’s got their reasons for despising Markwayne Mullin and mine is him screaming at the dignified and brilliant former CDC Director Susan Monarez at a hearing.

He lied about a nonexistent recording and tried to bully her into submission.

She was a locus of zen. He lost his damned mind.

Since we have 2 months of 2026 data now, we can see if the trend we saw last year holds up: does research from the current year get shared more on Bluesky or X-Twitter?

As you can see here, we still see days regularly where Bluesky's volume of research sharing is markedly higher than Twitter.
