As Haiti’s transitional authorities seek to chart a realistic path to safe elections and constitutional reform, they should ensure that violence's effects on women are recognised, the expertise of civil society leaders harnessed, and women can take up decision-making roles.

Yet the 9-member Transitional Presidential Council includes only 1 woman - who does not hold voting power.
Other new institutions likewise fall (far) short of the 30% quota in the 2012 constitution.
