My @beaniessheff.bsky.social delivery driver will laugh... when I say that I went to the shops & bought a cabbage... as I used to complain that we get too many leafy greens...but we've developed a taste for sauerkraut... and haven't got much left...
Homage to our wonderful #Yorkshire #rhubarb from @robynvinter.bsky.social - must remember to add to my @beaniessheff.bsky.social list today! www.theguardian.com/food/2025/ma...

Text reads: BEANIES 24th December: 9-4 25th and 26th December: CLOSED 27th-31st December: open 10-4 1st January: CLOSED 2nd January: open 9-7
We're open
9-7 on the 23rd
9-4 on the 24th
And then this ...
the next best thing
is the very last slice
toasted
knowing that nothing has been wasted
and yes
more butter
and sweet bitter marmalade
spooned in clumps from the jar
and thickly spread
and yes more tea
Assam or Darjeeling
the crunch of the crust
the appropriate applause
and the dream of encores
The best thing
is the first slice
cut while the bread is
still warm from the oven
slaked with thick
slabs of cold salted butter
the crust a little bitter
against the softness
of the crumb
enjoyed in a quiet kitchen
standing up at the counter
with tea
on a darkening afternoon
that is the best thing
I fell in love with fermenting red onions! Two or three thinly sliced then salted and packed into a jar!
A little bit smelly (according to Mrs), but delicious after a couple of weeks!
3 jars of red cabbage sauerkraut, with green & white checked lids.
We tasted the sauerkraut today... and it was yummy... so I decided it was ready... I can't believe that there was enough to fill 3 jars... now I'm thinking of setting another batch going... with the green cabbage @beaniessheff.bsky.social brought us this week... π½

A view from my attic window of the neighbours offshot rooftop with a chimney stack at the end, upon which is sat a wood pigeon. It is a grey rainy day. Beyond the city of Sheffield - rows of terraced houses and trees, stretching away to the horizon. Pale grey clouds fill the sky.
Good morning!
A rainy day in Sheffield.

never actually die
