Happy Pharmacy Appreciation Month! 🎉This month, our ActionADE site engagement took us to Richmond, Lions Gate, St. Paul’s, and Vancouver General Hospital. It’s been a pleasure collaborating with pharmacists at each site! Shoutout to our pharmacists and all our users for reporting ADEs to ActionADE.

Dr. Sarah Otto of @zoology.ubc.ca says that while the avian flu virus hasn't shown much evidence of human-to-human transmission it was evolving rapidly to spread to other species like cows, and scientists are looking at parts of the virus that could attach to human cells.

Canada slowest in reporting bird flu at 618 days – but COVID shows we can do better The global average for countries to report genetic information about bird flu, crucial to tracking and preventing a human pandemic, was seven months, and Canada came in last, a new study has found.

Dr. Sarah Otto of @zoology.ubc.ca says there's an urgent need for Canada and other countries to speed up the pipeline from sampling an infected creature, analysis of the genetic information, and submission to a global scientific database.

Less than 5% of serious adverse drug reactions (ADRs) are reported in Canada despite Vanessa’s Law. We need stronger #pharmacovigilance to enhance #patientsafety.

Plants may stop absorbing carbon if temperatures continue to rise Rising temperatures make plants lose more water, weakening their ability to absorb carbon dioxide and survive heat stress.

“When temperatures rise, plants lose more water through cuticle than through pores,” says Dr. Sean Michaletz @ubcbotany.bsky.social. “This limits their ability to absorb CO2 & reduces their role as a carbon sink.”
