ISS Book Club was rich in discussion. It made me think about my tagline that helps me focus my time and decisions. Does this opportunity/activity help me grow readers? If not, I will pass. Looking forward to hearing from @nholb.bsky.social & @skjohns.bsky.social buff.ly/nPifBQj @aaslala.bsky.social
I can't wait to listen to this! Amanda always does very intentional work. @illinimccoy.bsky.social

I am finally getting the ideas out of my head and into a presentation for my state library association. Volunteers are near and dear to my heart. In 20 years of practice I have seen the good, bad, and ugly. It's time to share!

"You can sit in a comfy chair to read!" Student reply, "I don't sit so good." This is a child who knows herself. Stand up and read that book, kiddo!

Being that it is challenging to write on, what about cutting out images and creating a comic strip? My students were insanely creative with this when I handed them pages of damaged graphic novels - they cut glued and assembled "new" graphic novels from our recycled pages.
You have wonderful "translating" skills - you know, listening to the question and then translating what it "really" means. What a follow up question!
You are too kind. This one really strikes a chord with me. Students connect with it and it felt like a great way to celebrate our identities and how unique we are.
Oh, that is hysterical!
OMG! I can't stop laughing! Yea, no. That wouldn't work. (We live on two different planets).
It's my favorite time of the year - Students Rebuild time! We are celebrating our unique selves with a read aloud. buff.ly/UKmOijo

Our cozy corner got an upgrade today. The fairy lights were not cutting it. Tap lights are much more effective for this space (yes, they are under a table ๐คฃ). This well-loved space was designed by 5th grade Reader Leaders.

Rounds of "Would You Rather" are decimating our new book displays. I love it! Inspired by this idea, I am introducing students to new nonfiction in our library: buff.ly/yHFJKs6

Happy #ReadAcrossAmerica day! Today I am reflecting on the beautiful student-centered celebrations we used to have - a costume video/parade, narrated by students, a student-led assembly, and lots of reading. buff.ly/j0cTjra

This is a "maintenance" year. I purchased filler for these chairs because time has taken a toll on their squishiness. It's much more fun to buy new items than the items needed to maintain them. But, it must be done...

Students are trying out new choice time activities and magnetic chess is all the rage! I love games that can be taught in 60 seconds or less and played over and over because they are so short!

New books are here. Students have an option to explore them virtually in genrefied collections or "live" by browsing the shelves. It's about a 50/50 split which surprised me. Students want to touch the books!

Yes! I hope this is a tradition that catches on. It is a beautiful labor of love!
This is a beautiful celebration of Black authors & illustrators. Amanda's intentional planning provides a wonderful experience for students and staff alike. I love the anonymous feedback loop that provides her with insight into many classrooms to make tweaks & improvements for the next one.

I would love to! We launch soon.
I am using part of my Snow-icane day to plan out this year's #StudentsRebuild project. I am grateful for the resources available that are serving to help me focus our thinking: buff.ly/G9u3DCa

I have window markers which I pull out occasionally. The barrier is the clean up - they clean up best with a bucket of cleaning solution and a squeegee from our custodian which she is always happy to provide, but it is one more step. Markers are more fun, but more clean up ๐ฅ
This university #Makerspace had students repairing clothes, creating a book, and several other groups of students were actively creating. I also spied some games and windows of plants. This is a space I would retreat to if I were a student!

We are wrapping up our #SibertSmackdown at our early childhood center. Teams of students are poring over the illustrations in Washed Ashore by @kellycrull.bsky.social
to find the hidden pictures. I think these 3 and 4 year olds are better at this than my 3rd & 4th graders!

Black History book displays fill our shelves. I am reliant on volunteers to pull these and do the work. A volunteer team is essential to operations here. Without them, there are no displays. My time is very limited in each building. #MakingItWork
