Macronychus quadrituberculatus, which we've fondly nicknamed the Riverwood Riffle Beetle, has been recorded in Staffordshire for the first time in over 150 years.

This is a rare species in Europe. It is a flagship indicator species for healthy lowland river reaches. @coleopsoc.bsky.social

Have you ever noticed that the second bow of a double rainbow is in the reverse colour order? There's probably some physics in the back of my brain I keep meaning to dust off to explain why! πŸ˜†

πŸ’° Β£11 Million waiting to restore our rivers!

Fines from water companies should fix pollution damage, but not a penny has been spent.

We've urged Water Minister Emma Hardy to release these funds for essential river restoration.

Gravel is the unsung hero of healthy rivers.

I think it is (almost) as important for river wildlife as the water that flows over the top.

The sediments, pebbles rocks and stones are vital to healthy rivers but they are also under threat.

Read on to find out why πŸ‘‡

Pictures of collapsed North Wales road as work continues to get A5 back open The road collapsed on Tuesday - forcing its closure

One of the problems with culverts (aside from acting as a barrier to most ecosystem services and connections) flume tests show they generally leak (unseen) around the structure from day one...meaning they fail catastrophically too as the leaks can't be inspected
