Justifiers invade the ‘part of town they want’, calling the people they are capturing ‘swine’, and declaring that “the women and children are as hated as the men”. They drag people from their homes, declaring that they ‘waiting to do this for years’. Familiar.

The justifiers continue to drag people away, saying they are nothing but animals and declaring themselves justified in ridding the city of these people. As if the point wasn’t clear enough, a justifier then goes on to burning down a library, calling the books within ‘decadent’, and that “you need know no more than the PROPER thing”

Like it is uncomfortable in how real this is, and of course as a Jewish man and a WWII veteran, Kirby is able to recognise this behaviour, which was not absent in the years since but an ever-bubbling threat, and indeed *gestures to the world today*

Fascism has a shallow playbook, and so Kirby speaks to past and present with this stuff.
