They are for cars too. I never hated bike lanes, but never really understood why they were needed until I got my license and started driving regularly in the city. Cars are set up for cars, not bikes. Bikes need their own infrastructure, just like pedestrians have separate infrastructure.

When you have a sports team, a big chunk of your calendar has to be reserved for playoff games. But those aren't guaranteed so unless you're having a great season, there's usually just a big dead spot in your calendar where nothing is happening and no one is making money.

When the Sonics left Seattle, then-Key Arena started turning a profit for the first time in decades. Concerts and events can be quite lucrative, and provide a lot more local jobs than sports.

There's a building on 5th Avenue that passed design review and it literally causes avalanches so they have to chut down the street when it snows. If design review can't even stop buildings from creating avalanches, it should not exist.
