Or poor judgement. Who knows?

12.03.2026 11:48 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

What the heck have I just watched?

10.03.2026 20:25 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

That was a poor excuse not to get the SCT anyway. I used to carry my C9.25 to the local football field and that thing must have weighted upwards of 30kg (tripod and fork mount included).

Well worth the effort, though.

Ah, it has an integrated guide sensor, right?

08.03.2026 09:47 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Love Bode's Galaxy, damnit. Didn't know there was a 585 version of the air cameras.

I have bad experience with Skywatcher telescopes. I avoidit like the plague now :-D My askar 60F is great though.

07.03.2026 21:25 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah... that's why I've avoided ZWO. It's great in terms of convenience, but I like to have options and most of their systems don't work outside the ZWO ecosystem. But hey, if it works for you, it works.

+1 for the 585 camera and galaxies (or small objects that don't need wide fields in general). I've been looking at the miniCam 8 for mono.

07.03.2026 21:13 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

More expensive than a newt, though, no?

07.03.2026 21:12 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Fair, I generally go for the Bode galaxy nearby :-) I really need a bigger scope than my small 60mm refractor for galaxy photo. I have an old 10'' newtonian, but it's starting to look like it'll be cheaper to get a new one than to retrofit this one...

M33?

Now join all of them into a single image!!
*Laughs maniacally*

Amen. I still play the Aleph-one version every now and then.

07.03.2026 08:55 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Awesome. I guess the best way to know is just give it a try anyway.

04.03.2026 17:08 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Yeah but applying a heating band to a Ritchey-Chretien is more trouble than it's worth.

You know, there was a time when I could have categorically told you I don't need it (in regards to humidity). Over the past three years? I have no idea.

Any astrophotographers out there who happen to see this: How necessary do you think a dew shield is for a small RC telescope?

03.03.2026 18:56 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, but that's not the point. I have Steam set up to English. The only way for the game to know to switch to Portuguese is by taking a peek at my system. I hate that.

I am not kidding: there are few things that piss me off more when getting into a videogame, than having the language changed to match my region (looking at you Outer Wilds).

We had a fully mechanical typewriter as a kid.

02.03.2026 11:03 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

emacs for me, recently. The shortcuts are a bit counter-intuitive, for what I'm used to, so the muscle memory needs retraining, but I kind of like it.

I have known this man for a decade or so and have never once heard him utter a curse word out loud. But man does this call for it.

28.02.2026 18:10 πŸ‘ 201 πŸ” 24 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 1

I do. But I also still believe the octopus is secretly a shape-shifting alien bent on eating the crew no matter what you say on the subject ;-)

28.02.2026 19:15 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

... how giant is that giant crab, exactly?

28.02.2026 18:19 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Cool. Even if the weather does not cooperate it should be simple to get a fairly similarly bright star to compare to regulus.

28.02.2026 13:19 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Maybe Denebola, Regulus, Spica or Arcturus? These are all fairly bright without being the monstrous overcompensating torch that is Sirius, to the West (and which is unavailable to me mostly).

28.02.2026 13:14 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Leo should be fine.πŸ‘

28.02.2026 09:04 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Still there, though. Staring.
