The ICE warehouse in Western Maryland, up close. It’s hard to explain how enormous this place is until you’re standing right in front of it.

the Bastiat theory of military strategy
came here to say this
if you gave amtrak 5% of the military budget every year it would have received more money in two years than it has in its entire existence up to that point
Meanwhile, Spain's massive investment in renewables is paying dividends now: with prices for Spanish industry and consumers low and stable compared with other European economies.

The far right's new politicized higher ed accreditor is illegitimate.
"Rather than protecting educational quality, the CPHE appears designed to give partisan political actors a powerful new tool to pressure universities to conform to a narrow ideological agenda"
— Todd Wolfson, AAUP President
Florida’s Board of Governors is made up of “political appointees from the business world, from insurance executives to roofing contractors, who are dictating how professors must teach their courses and even providing state-created textbooks for doing so.”

look if you travel west for long enough from Palo Alto you *will* hit Oakland, I take no pleasure in this
Nice try but the humans who did this are still going to The Hague
A lot of people say AI isn't very good for the world and its outputs are routinely unreliable, but these haters fail to see how it's revolutionizing how we incinerate schoolchildren.
it is the explicit position of this administration that indiscriminate murder and torture are not just necessary evils but celebrated virtues. is it possible to imagine William Calley or Lynndie England even facing a reprimand in today's US military?
banging the "Nietzsche's Paradox" sign with a hammer here. "my superior genius and talent is being limited by the resentful mediocrities"
didn’t even bother to invent a fake taxi driver for this one

To be clear I do not think it would be justified to murder schoolchildren even if Iran had been planning an attack on the US, but this makes it clear that this is a purely elective war that they haven't even bothered pretending to lie about this time.
Trump administration officials acknowledged in closed-door briefings with congressional staff that there was no intelligence suggesting Iran planned to attack US forces first, two people familiar with the matter said reut.rs/46ybyTg
Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez on Iran:
“Remember that one can be against a hateful regime, as is the case with the Iranian regime, as is the whole of Spanish society, and at the same time be against an unjustified, dangerous military intervention outside of international law.”
They went to war with Iran (which nobody in America was asking for) so they could conjure an excuse to allow ICE to keep murdering Americans and teargassing schools here at home with impunity (which nobody in America was asking for).

In the history of Taylorism it's never been about making the machine do what human workers can do, but making the workers act like machines. Similarly, we should recognize this isn't about punishing service workers for not being courteous, but for not behaving like AI. Their humanity is the problem.
I wish Nietzsche and Freud were here to witness the extent to which violence workers are plagued by fantasies of persecution
Donald Trump killed two of my constituents. He is a liar and should be ashamed of himself.
unironically this is one of the strongest, broadest cases for socialism: everything desirable about liberalism is undermined by the concentration of private wealth and power that capitalism requires. normatively liberal and procedurally socialist is probably a more winning program than the reverse.
