Cityscapes (1974) - Historic Minneapolis Film
YouTube video by Augsburg University Archives
1974 film by Augsburg College for the City of Minneapolis, made with NEA money. Much of it about the Loring Park area, but also about Hennepin Ave and downtown west generally. Is producer/co-director David Morris the same one as David Morris of Institute for Local Self Reliance?

Iβm at Albi Kitchen on Nicollet and they could definitely use more support these days. We need to work hard to keep our Somali-owned businesses afloat while the community is being targeted.

Paper model of an Art Deco sand stone movie theater with a vertical sign reading UPTOWN.
Paper model of a white one story building with four pillars to its from porch and a red roof.
Inspired by @mplsnightmayor.bsky.social⦠From the time I was 10, I made paperboard buildings for my parents' Christmas tree. After I moved to the Twin Cities, I was joined by my SO in making them. Some are real buildings here, like these (the building in Loring Park and a warped Uptown Theater).

sepia toned portrait of Loring in 1900 when he was President of the Minneapolis Park Board, Minnesota Historical Society.
I rarely do births for #OnThisDay, but this one is special:
Nov 13, 1833: "Father of Minneapolis Parks" Charles M. Loring is born. In the 1880s he begins acquiring the city's lakes and shorelines, and along with Horace Cleveland creates the finest public urban park system in the United States.

The Church Steeples of Loring Park in #Minneapolis. Three buildings that I saw almost everyday and still find new ways to photograph them. They are lovely, and for the most part really welcoming of the LGBTQ community. Evidenced by rainbow stairs and sidewalks in Pride Month. #Church #UrbanGaze

A look inside the Walker Arts Center, I saw one person standing, waiting, the other a security guard. I think the silhouettes are self identifying
The Cherry on the Spoon is a famous Minneapolis landmark, so I wanted to get a photo with it. Here we see the front view of the bottom of the spoon and the cherry on top with a shadow of me covering a the bottom of the spoon
Saw the plants in a window. Love how the lights inside create a silhouette of each one. If you are a house plant owner it is a fun game of name that plant. Reminds me of the original Pokemon when they would show the outline of a Pokemon before commercial breaks.
No night would be complete with out a photography of the LPM building. Here we see the different windows and lights of the building. Also, I learned that the LPM only stands for Loring Park Minneapolis and I was a bit disappointed.
Another round of after work #Photography. On tonight's episode of dog walks after dark, this is what I saw...
