BALTIMORE

Two were alive. One came round the corner
clipclopping. Three were the saddest snow ever seen in Prairie City.

Take this, metamorphosis. And this. And this. And this.
If I’d needed your company,
I’d have curled up long before in the clock of weeds,
with only a skywriter to read by.
I’d have laved the preface
to the World’s Collected Anthologies,
licked the henbane-flavored lozenge
and more. I’m presuming,
I know. And there are wide floodplains spotted with children,
investing everything in everything.
And I’m too shy to throw away.

I once asked a bookseller at a large indie store how many people would have to buy a book for it to get the attention of the store buyer and cause an additional order and they said: Three.

A book cover. Two black birds of unknown species ponder a flash of light rising from horizon. One bird says "The Smallest Mistake We Call Human." The cover is lovely and everyone you know will like it.

PRESALE TIME!!

The best time to order small press books is during presale, when there are author incentives and awards buzz begins.

So order one, or order ten for all your friends. I mean look at that cover β€” who wouldn't want this on a coffee table.

Fuck!

Fuck! Everything is so bad!!
There’s an auction on dreams β€”
Bonanza! Palooza! Extra-
vaganza! Our one reverie sold
for cents on the dollar. We got
to be so good just to hold on
to what we got β€” they have us
rung like trees, growing half
a centimeter a year and calling it
progress. In the century it takes
to see a difference, we’re all dead.
Fuck. I just want to say something
true that doesn’t hurt β€” palms
and love handles say perfect
ain’t the only way to stay alive.
If I’m wrong, let me down easy.

Donate to We Lost Everything to a Fire. Help My Family Rebuild., organized by Chloe Clark On January 24th, our childhood home burned down. Our parents lost 50… Chloe Clark needs your support for We Lost Everything to a Fire. Help My Family Rebuild.

On January 24th, my parents home burned down. They and my disabled brother escaped with only minor burns but they lost everything they've ever had.

I'm running a GoFundMe to help them recover and rebuild. I would be deeply grateful for any donations but also for any shares!

Maybe the end is extremely nigh

any poem that tries to catch old prophets
up to speed disappoints the centuriesβ€”
we’re running out of time to be running
out of time; now the fires can husk whole
countries [yes, we still be having countries];
people freeze on streets, starve in their homes,
die for no better reason than someone else
wants it; but we also tend hopes that are
quietly alive: shoots plume under the hum
of central heating, dirt breaks for life, tendrils
take leaf, and kings will come to thresh them;
leafless industry pumps death into sky;
no one names the dark age because we see
too much; a melting world won’t mend us.

My cake is blurry. The sun
fills the room. The room crumbled.
There is no cake in the evening
after the long day. My body
pedals faster. The day is further
away. It’s two in the afternoon.
I don’t know why I’m crying.
You are not coming home.
