The worst part of saving the dang daylight is that we all feel jet-lagged and yet we are not in Paris.

Day 21 in #aBirdFromTheLord
Annaβs hummer silhouetted against the dawn.
Christian Wiman writes that wonder is the precondition for all wisdom.
The KJV of the Bible uses the word βBehold!β over a thousand times.
We miss so much when we do not pause to see.
Happy three week birthday to this beauty.
Hearing how itβs encouraging folks in the midst of difficult changes in their lives is bringing me such joy.
Day 20 in #aBirdFromTheLord
Took a lunch walk and said hello to the charm of finches sunning themselves over in our preschool trees.
Halfway through Lent and I feel like Iβve been sprinting the whole way. Book launch. Church programs. Kid stuff.
Today is a day for deep breaths. God is near.
If you like correcting others, birding is for you because you get to spend the rest of your life telling people thereβs no such thing as a seagull.
That does seem like it would make it sooner.
See, this is a good idea.
Friday our oldest child officially became taller than me. I am having feelings.
Oooh
Iβm doing a no buy clothing year and mostly itβs great but man, the ads for bird sweaters are TESTING ME.
Day 19 in #aBirdFromTheLord
Three California Gulls circling overhead. Gulls get bad rap, but theyβre such survivors.
When youβre birding your backyard or neighborhood, donβt forget to look far up into the distant sky. You may see unexpected treasures. Once I spotted a pelican!
Wedding. Help us.
This looks fascinating, Dave
ONE DAY I AM GOING TO WALK DOWN THE AISLE TO UPTOWN FUNK. βmy 7yo
Iβm happiest when Iβm working on a project
yet I canβt wait to be done with the project
yet I will be sad once the project is finished and
immediately look for a new project.
Those are cool birds!
Day 18 in #aBirdFromTheLord
Last night the wind sent one of our backyard chairs sailing into the screen door. CA winds feel ominousβthey increase our fire risk.
Birds are hunkered down. I canβt see any, though I hear a crow.
Sometimes hunkering down is the thing to do. We wait for smoother times.
So which oneβs the first mate? βmy kid, who hasnβt been to many weddings
Love a good goldfinch!
Day 16 in #aBirdFromTheLord
My spark birdβthe one that first got me into birdingβwas a Black Phoebe. These little flycatchers are all spunk and sass.
βYou will see greater things than these,β Jesus tells his disciples. The more I pay attention, the more I do.
What was your spark bird?
Especially when we live 20 minutes away. π€¦ββοΈ
Day 15 in #aBirdFromTheLord
Ugh. A leaf blower at the park.
I strain my ears to hear the birds . They are still there. Warbler. Woodpecker. Phoebe.
The world is full of so much noise. It can be hard work to listen to what we long for. And yet, when we do, we are blessed.
Itβs the pocket square thatβs sending me.
Just let our 9yo pick out an outfit for a wedding this weekend.
9: Mom, I LOVE it!
Me: You look great, bud!
9: I look just like a FLIGHT ATTENDANT!
Louder, for the people in the back.
Day 14 in #aBirdFromTheLord
Thereβs a Red-shouldered Hawk that hangs out at my childrenβs school. I hoped to see him today, but no luck.
Still, God sent this crow. One of the things I love about birding is that even when we donβt see what we are hunting for, thereβs always someone there.
I donβt often take down social media posts, but this one got WAY out of hand.
What if we followed a higher way?
Amazing!
Day 13 in #abirdfromthelord
How can this be the same yard where I witnessed 24 species just days ago?
Itβs all about time of day. At dawn on the day after a rain, everyone was out singing. Today at the hottest point of the day, only the Allenβs was bold enough.
What birds did God send you today?
That tagline is perfection.
