Trump’s love of the royals is useful to the UK but is there any point in massaging his ego and persuading him to say nice things for a few days if he then imposes damaging tariffs, denigrates our armed forces, and threatens our security by acting as Putin’s poodle?
Ultimately, the UK govt will decide if it’s in the national interest for the King and Queen to go on a state visit to the US. Jobs, prosperity, and security are key. But polling suggests Donald Trump is almost as unpopular as Andrew here and the public don’t back war on Iran.
The King is not against the idea of change. At Westminster there is a clamour for more transparency and scrutiny of the Royal Family. But the Windsors have to take a long view, unlike politicians often. Is this a 1917 moment or can wider reform wait?

There’s been a change in the mood music at Buckingham Palace. That message about Beatrice and Eugenie being welcome at events has been quietly dropped. William may yet offer some support but it looks unlikely. He certainly won’t go against his father.

Fresh evidence of how Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie were dragged into their parents’ business deals is revealed in Jeffrey Epstein’s emails: a plan to have them named as shareholders instead of their debt-ridden mother in a new business venture.

It’s unfortunate that social media gives a platform to the sort of mentally ill, fixated individuals who used to be confined to writing in green ink to newspapers from their padded cells.
For the moment at least Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor seems to be facing tougher restrictions in effective internal exile at Sandringham than his friend Jeffrey Epstein did while under house arrest after time in jail.

The working royals are trying to prevent Andrew and the Epstein scandal overshadowing their duties. It’s worth noting for the sake of balance that Harry and Meghan also refused to answer questions about it while in Jordan highlighting humanitarian crises.

I think you should check your facts before spouting nonsense.
That’s a ridiculous conspiracy theory made up by nut jobs though. Similarly, there will be whackos claiming Harry and Meghan are plotting with Andrew to take the heat off him by going to Jordan. The fact is the UK media has written tens of thousands of stories about Andrew and Epstein since 2011.
Prince Harry and Meghan are in Jordan for the next two days on a quasi-royal visit focused on relief efforts for victims of conflicts in Syria, Gaza, and the wider region. Buckingham Palace, informed as a courtesy, will perhaps be happy for even limited distraction from Andrew.

Will King Charles III modernise the monarchy in the wake of the Epstein scandal or will it fall to his heir? Either way, the mantra of evolution not revolution inside the Royal Household is out of touch with the growing calls for reform.
