This is genuinely insane, I clicked to see the years expecting the low part to be 70s or maybe 90s but its 2015!!!!! The entire anti trans panic is a decade old

Audre Lorde, in a 1989 commencement address, said, "Remember this, despair is a tool of your enemies. That rumor, 'You can’t fight City Hall,' is circulated by City Hall. Facing the realities of our lives gives us the motivation for action, it gives us the power to change. You are not powerless."

I’d rather have open borders than this. If you’re here, you’re here. Pay your taxes, don’t hurt anyone, and welcome to the neighborhood.

I keep thinking β€œmy god the people they’ve killed seem like exceptionally good folks” and I think the lesson there is that they’re not exceptional, but that wonderful people abound and that a baseline distrust in humanity is a shitty conservative trope that privileges power over collective strength

It is very very dark right now. But hold on, dawn is coming. You see its light reflected in the eyes of tens of thousands across this country when they tumble out into the streets in below freezing weather for vigils and marches.

Write the book you would like to see someone pull from a higgledy piggledy pile in a secondhand shop 63 years after your death and say, "This looks fucking weird. I think I will buy it for Joan."

Whatever is going to happen is going to happen whether or not we are scared or brave, anxious or calm. So we might as well show up however we can, the best we can.

I refuse to let this era be defined by the sick villains and spineless cowards. We are surrounded by everyday heroes and they will keep emerging.

And everything is flawed, if you want to look at it that way. The analogy that has helped me most is this: in Hurricane Katrina, hundreds of boat-owners rescued peopleβ€”single moms, toddlers, grandfathersβ€”stranded in attics, on roofs, in flooded housing projects, hospitals, and school buildings. None of them said, I can’t rescue everyone, therefore it’s futile; therefore my efforts are flawed and worthless, though that’s often what people say about more abstract issues in which, nevertheless, lives, places, cultures, species, rights are at stake. They went out there in fishing boats and rowboats and pirogues and all kinds of small craft, some driving from as far as Texas and eluding the au- thorities to get in, others refugees themselves working within the city. There was bumper-to-bumper boat-trailer trafficβ€”the celebrated Cajun Navyβ€”going toward the city the day after the levees broke. None of those people said, I can’t rescue them all. All of them said, I can rescue someone, and that’s work so meaningful and important I will risk my life and defy the authorities to do it. And they did.

My position on taking action. And on the important space between everything and nothing.

Trump, Border Patrol Retreat in Failure from Chicago Five important lessons of the first six months of Trump’s immigration raids β€” and why CBP’s Greg Bovino is the Nathan Bedford Forrest of the Trump era.

β€œTime and again, these agents β€” and the broader DHS and White House policies behind it β€” are being exposed not for their strength, but their weakness. Ordinary Americas are stronger β€” braver and better.”

Every tyrant & every empire never conceives its own demise & still they crumble. No system of injustice is natural, inevitable, or eternal.

a medieval manuscript style digital illustration. text at the bottom reads "god blessed me by making me transsexual for the same reason he made wheat but not bread and fruit but not wine: so that humanity might share in the act of creation. - julian k jarboe." in the center of the piece stands a trans person with top surgery scars, body hair, and facial hair. they are nude, with a red cloth partly draped over their body, and they hold a loaf of bread in one hand and a cup of wine in the other. in the dark blue background behind their head is a sun/halo and 5 stars, and on either side of them are stalks of wheat. there is an arched golden frame around them, and around this is an illuminated border of grapevines.

One way I have found to mourn someone is to set up a monthly sustaining donation to a mutual aid effort they cared about. If you can join me in honoring Alice Wong, @sfdirewolf.bsky.social with a sustaining donation today, please do. Thank you Alice, and I will not let the bastards grind me down.

Hi everyone, it looks like I ran out of time. I have so many dreams that I wanted to fulfill and plans to create new stories for you. There are a few in progress that might come to fruition in a few years if things work out. I did not ever imagine I would live to this age and end up a writer, editor, activist, and more. As a kid riddled with insecurity and internalized ableism, I could not see a path forward. It was thanks to friendships and some great teachers who believed in me that I was able to fight my way out of miserable situations into a place where I finally felt comfortable in my skin.
We need more stories about us and our culture.
You all, we all, deserve the everything and more in such a hostile, ableist environment. Our wisdom is incisive and unflinching. I'm honored to be your ancestor and believe disabled oracles like us will light the way to the future. Don't let the bastards grind you down. I love you all.
