This is a good analogy. Very useful in carefully controlled settings for specific usages, but unfortunately being widely inserted into everything and used without training or PPE and poisoning a lot of things and people and weβre going to pay a tonne of money to remove it safely in the future

It's #EatingDisorderAwarenessWeek - a time for support, advocation & learning. Yet disabled/neurodivergent experiences are less well known.
Help change that! If you're UK based, are 18+, and identify as neurodivergent AND/OR disabled please take part in my study!

A poster titled "Assessing the suitability of eating disorder measures within a UK disabled and neurodivergent population" is across the top, The York St. John University logo is in the top left and bottom right corner. Inside blue and orange textboxes are
- Why is this study important? Traditional measures have often been based on the experiences of the stereotypical idea of a straight, white, affluent girl This is not the case in reality! This study will assess how suitable these measures are for a marginalised population, to see if any changes are necessary Better measures means improved access to support
To take part you MUST:
Be 18+ years old
Have an official diagnosis, or self-identify, as being neurodivergent OR having any disability β physical/mental/cognitive, etc.
Not experience a severe learning disability, due to well-being concerns
What does the study consist of? An online survey asking: Some demographic information - e.g. age, gender, sexuality, neurotype The frequency of thoughts & behavior relating to body image & eating
Each of the bullet points are denoted by stars.
If you're interested/have questions please contact GEORGINA BURTON gburton221@gmail.com. There is also a QR code to scan.
Scattered on the poster is an image of a plate, knife and fork; a woman looking at her reflection in a handheld mirror; a blind person with a cane and guide dog; a man in a wheelchair, and a silhouette of a head with a brain made from colourful sparkles. At the bottom in smaller writing is "images by FreePik, Pixabay, and Vecteezy.com".
My second study is here! π₯³

Erin's talk was one of the ones I was most excited about and it didn't disappoint!
Refreshing to hear a move away from negative lenses and how individuals were empowered by their disabilities. Really looking forward to more on appearance-functionality and reading this theme in more detail!

Yesterday's (and today's) #PiBI2025 had some great talks looking at broadening the research on groups that have previously had less focus - be that culturally, sexual orientation, gender, neurotype, age etc.
Really important work going on! I learnt a lot, very enlightening to hear

It was an honour to hear from key academics in the field e.g. Damien Milton, Wenn Lawson, Liz Pellicano.
Highlights include the framing of 'energy accounting' by Maja Toudal, emphasising more links between brain and body with Jessica Eccles, and the sheer volume and voice of lived experiences

The environment (as a non-autistic person with my own struggles) was extremely welcoming & affirming, things I wouldn't have the confidence to do elsewhere
Fidget loads when presenting my poster as I was ~anxious~; putting loops in during lunch as it was LOUD and crowded; colouring to switch off

This is maybe the worst part about being an educator in the AI era.
AI companies are *stealing your time* by making you work around it/find it/adjudicate it. Time that, 4 years ago, you would have used to improve your materials, or stay up-to-date on some area of research.
