Relative abundance of bacteria associated with each treatment and brood or workers. This is a subset of 36 ASVs that had an average abundance greater than 0.05% across all samples. The shading indicates variation in the relative abundance of different bacteria in all samples ranging from low abundance (navy/black) to high abundance (light blue).
Lily Kelleher & @manuramalho.bsky.social show that important bacteria associated with Aphaenogaster ants change in warmer temperatures, with a depletion of important bacteria that help with their growth, development and vitamin B synthesis. doi.org/10.1242/bio....

A textbook image I did a few years ago showing a trap-jaw ant (Odontomachus rixosus) with her mandibles held open and trigger hairs forward, and then in the closed position.
The snapping shut of the trap is one of the fastest measured animal movements.
