As John Vervaeke points out, Nazism was basically gnosticism gone bad, a "gnostic nightmare".

Right. This idea that Judaism defines itself in opposition to Christianity is just false. I grew up in a reform temple and I just didn't hear anything about Jesus at all.
He just doesn't play a role in the religion.
Glad to learn about him, but not from someone who starts w/ falsehoods & disrespect.

Yes, I know many Christians I respect, and I'm willing to read the new testament and learn from it. I see much to admire in Jesus' teachings.
But if you come at me telling me the faith of my ancestors is wrong and also without any curiosity as to what sustains them or me, why would I learn from you?

This is too small of a vision for me. I can accept that it works for you, but you cause harm to others by trying to force everyone into your narrow perspective.
Seems unlikely we will change each others minds or hearts in this matter.

This is very unfortunate! And I’m sorry both for the staff of the Bodleian and all of us who rely on its resources. Does this make you and your colleagues at the Bodleian rethink your partnership with OpenAI given that their guiding principle is likewise to exploit the data from your collections?

A calculator is a tool based on well-defined and understood algorithms. It may or may not be ethical depending on the circumstances. I might break down the difference in terms of Ivan Illich's concept of "conviviality".
Most have such little ability to critique technology that it's hard to discuss.

Language models based on the transformer architecture can be used in ways that are beneficial, but such beneficial use requires transparency into training data (as I have been arguing since 2018) and that doesn't even touch the unethical production of these systems.

In contrast to the coverup of the EPSTEIN crimes here in America, there are ongoing investigations in the UK, France, Turkey, Poland, Latvia & Lithuania that is sure to expose his central, filthy role in the largest crimes against humanity case in world history. #AccountabilityIsComing

We really need to move beyond fundamentalism: people that think there is only one way.
Somehow I'm reminded of Worf's journey in Star Trek and Tevya's journey in Fiddler on the Roof. They both gain strength from their faith, & yet the world doesn't match their simple picture and they need to adapt.

Your inability to accept that there are multiple paths is what I find very sad. I assume you also find all Buddhists and Hindus and Zoroastrians and Muslims to be lost?
I don't mind you finding deep meaning in Christ. I strongly object to you thinking there is no other way.

The war makes it more urgent for journalists to call out Trump’s derangement | Press Watch The commander-in-chief is unfit for duty.

I've been struggling with how to express my dismay at the war coverage by our top newsrooms, and how it dances around the central fact that Trump is deranged and unfit to command. I finally wrote something. Please read it. presswatchers.org/2026/03/the-...

Cut it out. Christianity came out of Judaism. You are denying your own heritage.

Or maybe you got used to communicating with large numbers of somewhat anonymous people on social media which changed how you feel about relationships. No judgement. I appreciate what you do here on bluesky. But it must have personal consequences.

Caught 4 silicon beads in the laser!

I didn't realize that historical dates get to vote for the mayor of NYC.

Perhaps by some very narrow (bad) definition of sociality. Meaningful connection requires self and experience, and so far, silicon is far behind carbon from what I can tell.

This is Vervaeke's way in to saying we need an ecology of practice.

Just doing something crazy and destructive, hoping to stay in power. How much more destruction will he cause?
Let's vote out the Republicans who support such nonsense and such destruction.

Still, it did seem like a helpful protection as I put my head into the laser's path, trying to figure out what was wrong with the alignment.

10.03.2026 05:55 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Yes, I found myself doing the same today. We had some paper with a fluorescent material, but it was pretty weak and hard to see the laser in the lighted room. And in a classroom with a lot of people with other lasers, quite disruptive to keep turning the overhead lights on and off.

Or maybe you don't want a civil conversation. You just want to send out your narrow hateful perspective with a take it or leave it attitude. Probably most people not in your tiny slice will end up blocking you.

10.03.2026 04:18 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

You're really going to deny the religion of my ancestors and want to have a civil conversation?
You are not a good person.
You see the world so narrowly that you will end up denying your own humanity.

All of these require some interpretation to get to a strong anti-abortion stance as a major life and political and spiritual priority. Only focusing on the old testament, Judaism has often come to the opposite conclusion.

Honestly, I didn't actually work with this machine in the maker space here. I just thought it was quite impressive looking. Sounds like it can also be dangerous!

I tried to ask a lot of anti abortion people how their Christianity supported this position, and it's really quite weak when one looks closely at the texts.

I'm so angry that our country put us all at the mercy of this narcissist. Until you've seen narcissism first hand in your life, you tend to not believe it or to underplay it.
